Our furnishings and accessories tell a story, our story, when styled well. Here are several easy tips for styling your coffee table.

Coffee tables may be one of the most functional and important pieces in your living spaces.

They are a focal point to help your home tell its story.

They are a spot to share your hospitality.

How you style your table can enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the room.

Choose the Right Coffee Table

There are so many different types of coffee tables that come in a variety of styles, materials and sizes.

Finding the right one for your space doesn’t have to be a challenge.

Here are some tips for selecting a coffee table that compliments your space and your sense of style:

  • Choose a table about 2/3 the length of your sofa.
  • If there are often children around you may want a round or oval table without pointed edges.
  • The table should be the same height as the seating or within four inches.

You can even use something different than a traditional table like an ottoman or a trunk.

Green and White Christmas Decor in the Cabin

Leave about 16 inches between your table and the seating so there is room for walking through and leg space while sitting.

When deciding on a wood, glass or metal table, try to match your style, but go with what you are drawn to. Begin scrolling Pinterest and see what tables stop your scroll.

Establish a Focal Point

When styling your coffee table, it’s a must to establish a focal point that draws the eye and sets the tone for the rest of the room.

Buffalo Plaid Christmas Decor

Whether it’s a bold statement piece like a unique vase, a stack of art books, natural elements or a striking decorative tray, this central element creates balance and visual interest.

Northern Lights Candles, White Arrows Home, Coffee Table Tray, Log Cabin, Cabin, Outdoor Life, Antler Decor

From there, you can build layers around it using smaller accessories like candles, plants, or sculptural objects, keeping the overall arrangement cohesive and inviting.

A thoughtfully chosen focal point helps your coffee table feel curated and intentional.

Layering and Height Variation

Layering and height variation are key techniques for creating a dynamic and visually appealing coffee table display.

Start by stacking books or trays to create depth, and add objects of varying heights, such as candles, vases, or sculptures, to introduce visual interest.

Spring Decor, Green Bowl, Cabin Decor, Cabin Style, Coffee Table, Woven Basket Tray,

This interplay of layers and differing heights not only adds dimension but also keeps the arrangement from feeling flat or one-dimensional.

By mixing smaller and taller items, you can achieve a balanced look that feels both stylish and thoughtfully composed.

Balance and Symmetry

Achieving balance and symmetry is crucial when styling your coffee table, as it creates a sense of harmony and order.

Symmetry doesn’t mean everything must match exactly, but rather that the arrangement feels visually balanced.

Fall Decor- White Arrows Home

For example, place two matching items, like vases or sculptures, on either side of a central piece to create a sense of equilibrium.

Incorporating balance through size, shape, and color ensures that no area feels too cluttered or empty, resulting in a coffee table that is both aesthetically pleasing and inviting.

Incorporate Personal Touches

Incorporating personal touches into your coffee table styling is what makes the space truly feel like home.

Cabin Decor

Whether it’s a cherished family heirloom, a unique souvenir from your travels, or a favorite piece of artwork, these personal items add character and warmth to the display.

Mixing in meaningful objects with decorative pieces creates a curated, yet authentic look, making your coffee table not just a decorative feature, but a reflection of your personality and style.

These touches invite conversation and make your space feel inviting and thoughtfully designed.

Practical Considerations

When styling your coffee table, it’s important to strike a balance between style and function while keeping the space clutter-free.

Consider how the table will be used on a daily basis—leave room for drinks, snacks, or books without overwhelming the surface with too many decorative items.

Cocktail Pitcher in Cabin

Opt for versatile pieces, like a decorative tray to corral smaller items, or a storage box that doubles as a stylish accent.

By focusing on practical considerations, you can create a coffee table that looks beautiful while remaining functional and easy to live with.

Winter Cabin Coffee Table Decor

Seasonal and Occasional Changes

Styling your coffee table with seasonal or occasional changes is a fun way to refresh your space throughout the year.

Embrace the colors, textures, and themes of each season—swap out summer florals for cozy candles and warm-toned decor in the fall, or add fresh greenery and light, airy pieces in spring.

Green and White Christmas Decor in the Cabin

For special occasions like holidays or birthdays, incorporate festive elements like a decorative tray with seasonal treats or elegant tableware.

These small changes keep your coffee table feeling current and lively, while adding personality and celebrating the moment.

Fall Cabin Decor

It’s a quick and easy way to refresh the look without a major overhaul.

Fall Decor

Styling a Coffee Table in an Outdoor Space

Styling an outdoor coffee table requires a blend of durability and style to withstand the elements while creating a welcoming space.

Choose weather-resistant materials like wicker, metal, or wood for the table itself, and accessorize with outdoor-friendly decor such as ceramic vases, woven trays, or UV-resistant throw pillows.

Incorporate natural elements like potted plants or fresh flowers for a touch of greenery, and consider adding a few cozy touches like candles or lanterns for ambiance in the evenings.

By focusing on both practicality and aesthetics, you can create a beautiful and functional outdoor retreat.

Patriotic Cabin Porch

Have fun experimenting and playing around with your pieces finding a style that suits your taste and lifestyle.

You may decide you find a way you want to leave the table top decorated for a longer period of time, not switching it out often or seasonally and that’s fine too.

Here are fourteen ideas for hostess gifts to take to your next event or gathering.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

Finding the perfect hostess gift can be tricky — you want something thoughtful, useful, and a sweet reflection of your appreciation for the host’s time and effort.

Thanksgiving, fall fashion, winter fashion, cornucopia, fall flowers

Whether you’re attending a casual dinner, a festive holiday party, or a cozy weekend gathering, the right gift can leave a lasting impression.

Here are 14 creative and versatile hostess gift ideas that will suit any occasion.

Unique Plant or Succulent

A low-maintenance plant or a trendy succulent makes a lovely hostess gift that adds life and greenery to any space. Choose a plant that’s easy to care for, like a snake plant or a pothos, and pair it with a chic pot or planter. If your host isn’t known for having a green thumb, opt for an air plant or a small cactus that requires minimal care.

Succulent Decor

Gourmet Coffee or Tea Sampler

For hosts who love a good cup of coffee or tea, a premium sampler is a perfect choice. Look for high-quality beans or unique loose-leaf tea blends. Add a stylish mug or tea infuser for a complete gift. If your host has a particular brewing method (like a French press, pour-over, or espresso machine), you can choose products that complement their coffee or tea rituals.

Cookbook from a Favorite Chef or Cuisine

If your host loves to cook, a beautiful cookbook can be an inspiring and practical gift. Look for cookbooks that focus on their favorite cuisine, cooking style, or chef. If they enjoy trying new things, consider books that focus on global dishes, seasonal ingredients, or healthy meals. You can even pair the book with a few kitchen gadgets or spices to enhance the theme. A vintage cookbook can always be a great idea too.

Paper Napkins

Beautiful, high-quality paper napkins are a subtle yet elegant gift. Whether your host loves to host informal brunches or more sophisticated dinner parties, a set of stylish napkins will come in handy for any occasion. You can find them in fun patterns or have them custom-printed with your host’s initials for a more personal touch.

Luxury Hand Cream or Body Lotion

Pamper your host with a luxurious hand cream or body lotion from a high-end brand. Look for products with natural ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or lavender essential oils. These thoughtful gifts are especially appreciated during the colder months when dry skin is a concern, and they’ll remind your host of your kindness every time they use it.

Flowers

Bring flowers, but have them already in a vase. It’s not always convenient for a hostess to take time away from guests or prep duties to get a bouquet into water and find a vase around her house. Find a beautiful vase in antique shop or thrift store and put a pretty bouquet from the grocery store inside. The special vase makes it a lasting gift to remember.

Easy, Pretty Grocery Store Flower Arrangements in our cabin

Homemade Gifts

A homemade cutting board can be both a beautiful and practical gift. If you’re handy with woodworking, you can craft one yourself from a piece of high-quality wood like maple, walnut, or bamboo. Personalize it by engraving your host’s initials, a meaningful date, or a favorite quote. You could also get creative by adding a painted design or pattern to match your host’s kitchen decor. It’s a gift they can use every day or display as a centerpiece in their home.

Tip: To elevate the gift, pair it with a set of artisanal kitchen knives or gourmet olive oil.

Vanilla extract is a classic ingredient that adds depth to any recipe, from baked goods to savory dishes. Homemade vanilla extract is not only a thoughtful gift, but it’s easy to make and has a luxurious feel. Simply split a few vanilla beans and steep them in a bottle of good-quality vodka (or rum for a slightly different flavor) for about 8-10 weeks. Once it’s ready, decant the extract into a decorative bottle, and add a cute label with instructions or a personal note.

Tip: Consider pairing it with some homemade baked goods like cookies or muffins to make a themed gift.

Board Game or Card Game

For a host who loves to entertain or enjoys family time, a well-chosen board game or card game can be an excellent gift. Pick something that’s easy to learn, but still fun and engaging for guests of all ages. A game like Codenames, Ticket to Ride, or a classic deck of cards can provide hours of enjoyment for the host and their guests.

Winter Cabin Coffee Table Decor

Luxury Tea Towels or Linen Napkins

Elegant and practical, a set of high-quality linen or cotton tea towels or napkins is a great gift for a host who enjoys hosting dinner parties. Opt for a neutral color palette or classic patterns like stripes, plaids or checks that will complement their kitchen or dining room. These towels or napkins add a bit of sophistication to everyday tasks.

Shop White Arrows Home Dish Towels.

Coffee Table Book

A beautifully designed coffee table book makes for a thoughtful and stylish gift. Choose one that matches your host’s interests, whether it’s art, design, travel, cooking, photography, or architecture. A high-quality, visually stunning book is something your host will love displaying in their living room or guest space — a conversation starter that blends well with their décor and adds to the ambiance of their home

Gourmet Popcorn

For a fun and unique gift, grab some gourmet popcorn. If it comes it beautiful packaging its ready to gift, but if its not add it into a stylish popcorn bowl. Your host can enjoy a cozy movie night with unique and flavorful popcorn — a treat that’s both creative and consumable.

Minocqua Popcorn, Popcorn, popcorn bar, popcorn bowl, specialty popcorn

Drink Stirrers

Elevate your host’s cocktail game with a set of stylish drink stirrers. Whimsical designs like whether a mismatched set of vintage swizzles or new options, drink stirrers add a fun and functional touch to any drink. It’s a small gift that can make a big impression at their next gathering.

Candles

A luxurious, artisanal candle is always a safe bet, but why not give a candle that goes beyond just a pretty scent? Choose one with an unusual or seasonal fragrance, like rosemary and pine for winter, lavender and lemon for spring, or even whiskey and vanilla for a cozy, warm vibe. You could also consider a candle in an interesting container — perhaps a vintage glass or a hand-thrown ceramic vessel — that can be repurposed once the wax is gone. Include a decorative container of matches.

cozy cabin, Northern Lights candle, log cabin, cottage

Shop our Signature White Arrows Home Firewood Candle.

A Fine Bottle of Liquor

For the host who enjoys a good drink, a bottle of high-quality liquor can be an excellent gift. Consider a bottle of their favorite spirit, whether that’s a classic bottle of whiskey, aged rum, premium tequila, or artisanal gin. You could also look for limited-edition releases, rare vintages, or local craft spirits to make it extra special. Pair it with a set of fancy cocktail glasses or an elegant decanter for a truly impressive gift.

No matter what you choose, the best hostess gifts reflect thoughtfulness and gratitude.

The key is to tailor the gift to the host’s personal tastes and interests.

By selecting something that shows you know and appreciate them, you’re sure to make your host feel special and loved.

Happy gifting!

Cranberries aren’t just for the Thanksgiving table; they can also be a vibrant, seasonal way to add natural beauty to your home decor. Whether you’re hosting a festive dinner, decking the halls for the holidays, or simply looking for a way to bring the cozy charm of winter indoors, cranberries can serve as both a decorative and aromatic element. Here’s how to use these brilliant red berries to add a pop of color and a dash of holiday spirit to your home.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

One of the many special things about living in the Northwoods is that there are cranberry farms here. I shared in THIS POST about visiting one.

My friend’s husband is a fourth generation cranberry farmer and I have been able to take tours there and join in for events like Cocktails in the Cranberries where we were able to don waders and walk right into the flooded berries.

My favorite aspects of all these decor ideas is how quickly, easily and affordably they come together.

Cranberry Centerpiece

This is the perfect way to showcase a beautiful and nostalgic antique. Old cranberry scoops can be found in many sizes and made of metal or wood.

Cranberry Decorating for the Holidays

How to:

  • I took an antique cranberry scoop and filled it with faux evergreens, florals, feathers and cranberries. See the details in THIS POST.

Cranberry Tree

The look of this tree is perfect as a table centerpiece or on the sideboard as a focal point among trays of apps.

How to:

  • Grab a styrofoam cone at a hobby shop and using hot glue attach cranberries around the entire shape.
  • Set the finished cone inside a wreath of greens.

Cranberry Garland

A cranberry garland is a timeless and simple way to bring seasonal warmth to your home. Stringing cranberries onto twine or a fine wire is easy, and the end result is striking. You can drape the garland across a mantel, hang it on your Christmas tree, or even hang it around door frames or windows for an extra touch of festivity.

How-to:

  • Thread fresh or dried cranberries onto a needle and string, leaving a small gap between each berry for a natural, rustic look. If you want to preserve them longer, use a needle and thread, or invest in a small, delicate wire for a more polished finish.
  • For a more sophisticated look, mix in small pinecones, popcorn, or cinnamon sticks to add texture and fragrance.

Mixed with Bay Leaves and Oranges

Cranberry Wreath

For a simple, DIY holiday decoration, make cranberry-infused ornaments that add a touch of natural beauty to your Christmas tree. These can be made by threading cranberries onto thin wire or fishing line to form a circular shape.

How-to:

  • Carefully thread cranberries onto a sturdy string or wire to create a small loop or circular shape.
  • Hang the cranberry loop directly onto the tree branches or around the edges of wreaths and garlands for an easy and charming display.

Mixed with Pinecones

The rustic simplicity of this arrangement takes seconds and can stay out all the way through Winter.

How to:

  • Find a favorite container like an enamelware bowl and fill it with pinecones.
  • Tuck in faux berries.

In a Vase

Give the illusion of a vase full of berries with this simple tip. Its a beautiful way to show of a festive holiday bunch of blooms.

How to:

  • Find a large clear vase or canister and add a smaller one filled with water inside.
  • Fill the space between the two canisters with cranberries.
  • Add a bouquet to the inside canister of water.

Floating with Evergreens and Candlelight

This easy DIY can be done with just one candlelight vase added in a vignette or several in a grouping on the coffee table or a line down the middle of the dining room table.

How to:

  • Pull out a mason jar or clear vase
  • Add water, then pieces of evergreen, some cranberries and top with a tea light.

In an Ornament

What an easy project this is with kids or your girlfriends. They can make a great addition to a gift or as a tree filler.

How to:

  • Pick up a few clear plastic ornaments at the dollar or craft store.
  • Pull off the top and drop in cranberries, a sprig of rosemary. and replace the lid.

On Your Cakes

Instantly festive. Your cakes take on a custom look with the addition of some cranberries and leaves.

How to:

  • Be creative with adding berries and leaves to the top of a frosted cake.

On Topiaries

A dramatic impact is added to your holidays with topiaries of cranberries atop beuatiful candlesticks.

How to:

  • Pick up a few styrofoam balls at the hobby store and hot glue cranberries all around them.
  • Set them on top of vases, pots or candlesticks.

Decorating with cranberries is a simple yet impactful way to bring natural beauty and festive cheer into your home. From garlands and wreaths to table settings, the bright red hue of cranberries brings warmth and seasonal elegance to any space. Plus, they can be easily incorporated into both traditional and modern decor styles, making them a versatile choice for anyone looking to embrace the spirit of the season.

Whether you’re hosting a holiday party or just want to bring a little holiday magic to your home, cranberries offer an easy and beautiful solution to all your decorating needs. Happy decorating!

Last year, when one of my daughters was living in Germany, my other daughter and I traveled over to visit at the beginning of December for a week.

It was a wonderful visit getting to spend time with her, see her life there, meet her friends and have a special tour guide.

One of the added bonuses to visiting this time of year was the Christmas Markets.

German Christmas Market

As winter sets in and the festive season approaches, there’s nothing quite as enchanting as a visit to a Christmas market in Germany or Austria.

SUBSCRIBE HERE so you don’t miss any inspiration!

These holiday markets, known for their twinkling lights, delightful aromas, and old-world charm, transport visitors into a fairy-tale setting where holiday traditions come alive with a blend with festive cheer to create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Whether you’re strolling through medieval town squares or wandering along snow-dusted streets, a visit to these Christmas markets is a must for anyone looking to experience the magic of the season.

Christmas Markets in Germany and Austria

We were able to visit several Christmas Markets just in our scheduled travel.

It was so interesting to see the ways they were similar and the ways they were different.

My overall memory of these experiences is that they were just as charming, festive and beautiful as I had dreamed they would be. I was so inspired by the holiday decorating and so touched by the attention to detail and community involvement.

We based our travel out of Karlsruhe, Germany and were able to walk through their beautiful market several times.

German Christmas Market

One of the highlights of the Karlsruhe Christmas market is its family-friendly atmosphere with a whole area focused on children’s activities and interests.

Rich Traditions and History

The tradition of Christmas markets dates back to the Middle Ages, with some of the oldest markets in Europe found in Germany and Austria.

The first recorded Christmas market, “Striezelmarkt” in Dresden, began in 1434, setting the stage for what would become a beloved holiday tradition across the region.

Over the centuries, these markets evolved from simple winter fairs into the elaborate spectacles they are today, offering visitors a glimpse into centuries-old holiday customs.

German Christmas Market

We visited the market in Baden-Baden, Germany.

One of my favorite parts of this market was the abundance of nativities.

Baden Baden Nativity

The Christmas market in Baden-Baden, Germany, is a delightful winter escape nestled in the heart of the Black Forest set against the backdrop of the town’s stunning 19th-century architecture and the beautiful Kurhaus (a grand spa building).

Baden Baden Nativity

Charm and Atmosphere

One of the main attractions of all the markets is the atmosphere.

The markets are usually set in historic town squares, surrounded by centuries-old buildings and churches, their spires rising above the festive crowds.

As you see in so many of my photos, wooden stalls, decorated with garlands and lights, line the streets, selling everything from handcrafted ornaments to steaming mugs of mulled wine.

There’s a palpable sense of community, with locals and visitors alike coming together to celebrate the season.

Angel Mailbox Baden Baden

We also took a beautiful hike through the Black Forest over looking Baden-Baden and exploring castle ruins.

If you can’t make the trip you can still bring home beautiful German Christmas decor. Shop my Amazon Storefront to find beautiful options.

Local Specialties and Delicious Treats

Food and drink are a central part of any visit to a German or Austrian Christmas market.

I have to share, I loved the Glühwein, a hot spiced wine, which is the drink of choice and often served in festive mugs that you can take home as a souvenir.

For something sweeter, you can indulge in Lebkuchen (gingerbread cookies), Maroni (roasted chestnuts), or Stollen (a rich, fruit-filled bread). Trying roasted chestnuts for the first time did not disappoint, they were delicious!

In Austria, don’t miss out on Kipferl (crescent-shaped cookies) and hot chocolate, served with a shot of schnapps for an extra warming kick.

Hiking in the Black Forest

Salzburg, A Castle & The Sound of Music

We took a quick trip down to Salzburg, Austria and stayed in a very special place.

Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron Salzburg

Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg is a breathtakingly beautiful and historic hotel set in a grand 18th-century palace, nestled beside a tranquil lake and surrounded by lush gardens.

The hotel was a peaceful retreat just a short distance from Salzburg’s city center, making it an ideal blend of history, luxury, and natural beauty. There were beautiful walking trails we were able to take right into the city.

Originally the private residence of a wealthy aristocratic family, the palace is perhaps best known as the filming location for the iconic movie The Sound of Music, where it served as the backdrop for the von Trapp family home.

We were able to freely enjoy the regal atmosphere of the hotel’s baroque interiors, including ornate frescoes and antique furnishings, while taking in stunning views of the lake and the nearby Alps.

We spent time in the library, enjoyed a meal in the elegant dining room and ate delicious meals at local neighborhood restaurants right near the hotel. It was is like stepping into a fairy tale or a movie set!

Salzburg Christmas Market

We also visited the Salzburg Christmas Market before and after an organ concert.

Salzburg’s Christmas market, held in the heart of its medieval Old Town, is so picturesque.

The market, set against the backdrop of Hohensalzburg Fortress and the baroque Residenzplatz, is known for its artistic and handcrafted goods, including delicate glass ornaments, intricate wood carvings, and candles.

For something sweet, sample the famous Salzburger Nockerl (a fluffy meringue dessert) or the classic Apfelstrudel. Our favorites were the pretzels!

Want to visit the Christmas Markets?

Practical Tips for Visiting

  • Timing: Christmas markets generally open from late November to Christmas Eve, with the largest crowds arriving in the weeks leading up to Christmas. If you want to avoid the busiest days, try to visit during the weekdays or early in the season.
  • Weather: Be prepared for cold weather! Dress warmly, as temperatures can drop significantly, especially in the evening. Layer up and bring gloves, scarves, and a good pair of boots to stay comfortable as you explore the markets. We didn’t have snow, but had lots of rain. Even in the rain, we were able to fully enjoy the experience.
  • Souvenirs: Don’t forget to pick up a few keepsakes to remember your trip! Handcrafted ornaments, wooden toys, and Christmas-themed decorations make for beautiful and lasting souvenirs.
  • Getting There: Germany and Austria are well-connected by train and public transportation, making it easy to hop from one market to another. Major cities like Munich, Vienna, and Salzburg also have airports with good international connections. We rented a car and had a beautiful, easy drive on the Autoban.

Getting to visit the Christmas markets in Germany and Austria was a festive experience, rich in traditions, delicious food, beautiful handmade gifts, and a sense of holiday magic. I made amazing memories with Kallin and her friends and was so blessed by their sharing of these moments.

Whether we were sipping Glühwein under a canopy of twinkling lights, marveling at the architecture, or browsing the stalls, the experience will stay with us long after the season ends.

I can’t wait to pack my bags, don my coziest sweater, and visit again to make more magical memories at the Christmas markets of Germany and Austria.

Happy holidays!

If you are coming over from Thistle Key Lane, welcome! Didn’t you love her beautiful green and white spring tablescape?

Welcome to Camp Paradise

Welcome to Wisconsin and our lakeside log cabin home way up north in an area known as The Northwoods.

Vintage Picnic Baskets

I love mixing in vintage decor and accessories throughout our home.

Seasonally I can pull pieces together based on their colors to add layers of interest.

This stack of green picnic baskets looks pretty all year long, but especially in the spring.

Cabin Easter Decor

I’ve used them in other seasons as well, mixed in with mums in the Fall and full of trees at Christmas.

Vintage Wood Crates

I love collecting old wood crates with great graphics like this Black Bear Beverages.

This crate is usually holding blankets up in the loft, but it made a great holder for Easter lilies too.

Easter Lillies in Cabin

Hens & Chicks + Vintage Dishes

My vintage dishes are one of my favorite collections to pull out, mix and match and style with.

I use my dishes not just at the table, but under candles, to hold items in drawers, as soap dishes…

I’m also always adding to my milk glass collection and a few hen and chick dishes when I find one I like.

Hen in a Nest Easter Table

Decorating with Lambs

This lamb cookie jar was a fun find and addition to my Easter decor.

I found it for under $10 at an antique shop and that made it an easy decision too.

Decorating with Bunnies

I have a wooden bunny that is my favorite pull out for Easter.

Decorating with natural elements in our log cabin is inspired by the forest that surrounds the house and the views outside our window.

So the rugged bark of the bunny is perfect.

He’s found his spot many places over the years.

Easy Valentine Decorating adds layers of love to your home.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

The Christmas Holidays are behind us and I am fully embracing Winter.

Winter where I live lasts a long time.

Our first snowfall is typically around Halloween and stays into April.

Northwoods Winter, Great Pyrenees

Even though it is long, I love the beauty of Winter and the opportunities it gives not only for fun recreation, but for cozy indoor moments too.

The holidays that come along during the long Winter also give a fun chance to celebrate and break the time up.

Valentine’s Day will be up next and I love layering in some of my special decor both old and new.

valentine-buffalo-plaid-vintage-crate

My friend Carol of Bluesky at Home hosts a monthly Celebrate the Holiday blog hop and this month’s theme is Valentine’s so perfect timing for gathering inspiration.

There are seven bloggers on the tour (you’ll find links to all at the bottom of my post,) and I’m honored to be one of them.

If you are coming over from Sonata Home Design welcome to White Arrows Home.

My blog and business are named White Arrows Home after the white arrow shaped signs that line our road sides here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

White arrow signs with Valentine phrases are a great way to add an easy fun layer.

Valentine Decor

I love looking through old postcards at antique shops for different holidays and the Valentine cards are always so cute.

The cards usually are very affordable.

I’ve found all mine for around a dollar each.

Valentine Decor Vintage Valentines, Plaid Books , Milk Glass Vase and Typewriter

I love them in one of the vintage typewriters from my collection, but they are also cute paired with little birch branches under cloche.

Valentine Decor

Roses are always a good idea.

And don’t wait for them as a gift, grab some cute bunches at the grocery store on your next shopping trip and add them to a fun container like the pewter mug above or a chippy crate in the photo below.

When I use a big item like the crate, I just put mason jars inside to hold the water and stems.

Valentine Box of Flowers

Vintage Valentine Favorites Video

Check out a little closer peek at how I use some of my favorite vintage valentine finds in this video:

Each year when I decorate for a holiday, as I pull the tub out, I think I will decorate just as I did the year before and then I get lost in the fun of styling.

This Lovit beverage crate was a favorite find and you can see in this post several of the spots it has ended up in over the years: full of blankets by a chair, full of roses on the coffee table and full of firewood and stacked on picnic baskets.

Often items I pull together for a holiday are around the house in other spots during the year, but when I group for a seasonal color, like reds for Valentine’s, it is an instant, easy and inexpensive way to decorate.

  • Pull together books with seasonal covers and stack, line up or group together
  • Switch pillows between rooms or have covers to interchange
  • Lay out coffee table books by season

White Arrows Home the Shop

Along with blogging I have a brick and mortar shop in Minocqua, Wisconsin, three hours north of Madison and east of the Twin Cities.

If you aren’t able to make it to my shop, everything is online so you can still shop from anywhere.

White Arrows Home the Shop

We sell antique, vintage and new furniture, decor, accessories and gifts.

There’s new and restored clothing, books and pantry items, a shop for how you love to live life.

Seasonal items are scattered throughout the store all the time, but right when you come in the door is set for what is currently the mood.

Right now, that’s “Bluetiful Winter”.

Here’s a look back at last year’s Valentine’s.

Bloggers’ Best Holiday Home Tours

This week I am joining some of my blogging friends for the Bloggers’ Best 2023 Holiday Home Tours.

Thanks so much to my friend Kelly of The Tattered Pew for organizing this beautiful gathering.

Thirty talented and creative women have opened their homes up for you to tour all week long.

You can visit each home tour by clicking the links at the bottom of my post.

If you are coming over from my friend Jen’s blog at Midwest Life and Style, I love how she creates her cozy holiday home.

I’ve always been so inspired by Jen and it’s no surprise that she was just featured in the holiday edition of American Farmhouse Style magazine!

Welcome to Camp Paradise

Our cabin home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is a beautiful backdrop for Christmas.

Everywhere we look we are reminded of the beautiful ways God shows his love for us in nature.

The snow, the forest, the sunrises, the sunsets, watching the lake in our backyard freeze over…

Cabin in the Snow

Heaven and Nature Sing

Heaven and nature sing is what our surroundings are proclaiming.

It’s a beautiful inspiration point for the season both as we prepare our hearts in joyful anticipation and as we prepare our homes with decor that reminds us in beauty and hospitality.

Christmas Porch

Joy to the World

Isaac Watts, the author of the beloved Christmas carol, “Joy to the Word” actually wrote it as a poem along with other writings he put into a book inspired by Psalm 98.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let Earth receive her King

Our family’s nativity scene is very special.

It was a beautiful wedding present from dear friends.

I choose to set it out on our entry table so it is the first thing we notice when taking in the beauty of all the festive decor.

It’s a reminder that the King has come.

Christmas Nativity Set

“Joy to the World” has been a favorite song for many since the 1700s. Christmas staple.

Sharing that joy during the season starts with preparing my mind and heart for Advent.

I take time to not rush into the decorating, but to have a window of time to turn music on and enjoy the process with whichever kids are around and want to help.

My mindset matters.

I want to feel peace and joy, not rushing.

Christmas Tablesetting Spode Dishes

And Wonders of His Love

Listening to Christmas music really gets me in the spirit!

In the car, in the kitchen, at work, I love singing along to favorites that keep me in awe of the wonders of His love.

Christmas decor, Jeep, Christmas Jeep, Christmas Songs

Favorite Recordings of Joy to the World

My absolute two favorite takes on Joy to the World are:

  • “Joy to the World” by Whitney Houston from The Preacher’s Wife (my favorite Christmas movie)
  • “Joy to the World/Joy of the Lord” (featuring Naomi Raine, Todd Galverth & May City Gospel Choir)

And I also love:

  • Joy to the World by Bing Crosby
  • Joy to the World by Hillsong Worship
  • Joy to the World (Joyful, Joyful) by Phil Wickham

Advent Reading

I look so forward to my Advent reading each year.

It is an amazing way to learn more from a story I have heard over and over again.

Christmas, Red Radio, Because of Bethlehem, Adult Coloring Book

Reminders of what the true meaning of the holiday are can be found all around.

Christmas Mantle Decor, Trees, Log Cabin, Buffalo Plaid, Buffalo Plaid Stockings, Rustic Decor

While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy

I choose joy this season and keeping things in perspective.

Christmas, Snow Globe, Christmas Decor, Santa, Santa Kneeling at the Manger

He rules the world with truth and grace

I am in awe of God’s grace for me.

The mistakes I make, he always forgives.

I’m working daily at giving myself grace for too.

Spode Christmas Tree, Christmas dishes, Spode, Holiday dishes

When I bring items into my home that say believe, it’s not about Santa, it’s about the truth of God sending His son to earth to live among us.

What I’m praying we continually believe in are the promises He has given us.

Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room

So as we head into the Christmas season I’m making room in my heart and my home for Him.

How do we do that in the busyness of to do lists, concerts, programs, gatherings, all that goes on during the holidays while still doing every day life?

  • Quiet time and reflection kept daily as a priority.
  • An Advent devotional book to get deeper meaning in the season.
  • Christmas worship music playing.
  • Nativity as the focal decoration.
  • Advent devotions on display.
  • Movies like The Nativity Story.

Here are some to read this holiday in THIS POST.

Next up you are headed over to White Lilac Farmhouse and her beautiful ideas for transforming a home for the holidays and winter decor.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I enjoy your virtual visits and sweet messages.

The connecting beyond the post is what I treasure.

May your Holiday season be full of blessings as we wait to celebrate the coming of Christ all those years ago.

I’m so thankful, He is alive still today in my heart and in my home.

Here are 14 Advent Devotional Books to Add Meaning to the Christmas Season

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

The past few years I have purchased the Advent studies from She Reads Truth.

Advent

I have really enjoyed the daily devotions and the extras included during the week for adding holiday traditions and recipes to connect the season to all that is special about Advent.

Often the themes are based on a favorite Christmas hymn title and lyrics.

This year it’s He Alone is Worthy.

She Reads Truth Advent

One of the things I love about the She Reads Truth studies is that they do a book focused around the same readings but for men with He Reads Truth.

I gift the books to my daughters and sons so that we are already the same devotions together and can talk about it throughout the season so having the men’s and women’s books works so well.

There are so many wonderful devotion books out there.

Many of them I have carried in my shop and they have been great sellers and are from wonderful authors from esteemed publishers.

Here are some I recommend.

The 25 Days of Christmas: A Family Devotional to Help You Celebrate Jesus

As I do for my young adult and teen kids, these devotionals make great gifts.

Gift one to your mom and sister and read together.

Pull together a group of friends to read together for the season.

The Gifts of Christmas: 25 Joy-Filled Devotions for Advent

Reading an advent devotion book helps to keep us focused on what the Christmas season is truly about.

Making time to read each day can give us the moments of slowness and reflection that are hearts so crave in such a busy time.

Shadow and Light: A Journey into Advent

Even though we may have heard the Christmas story many times, there is still so much to learn.

There are new insights that each book can bring to light.

The Bible is God’s living word so is active and intended to speak to us right where we are in the year and day of our life we are living.

What the author’s of these devotions pull out of The Word and teach us through their writing will be a blessing.

Emmanuel: An Invitation to Prepare Him Room at Christmas and Always

You could read the same devotion every Advent year after year and different parts will touch you each year.

You could also choose a new book each year to start a collection of beautiful Christmas devotions.

Unwrapping the Names of Jesus: An Advent Devotional

Embracing Advent: Rediscovering Christmas in the Chaos

These devotions I’m sharing are perfect for your personal quiet time this Christmas, but there are lots of Advent devotions written for families and couples too you can easily search out.

Some of the books are a short reading that takes minutes and others are more in depth.

Choose what is best for you.

Many of these are from some of the most respected pastors, speakers and writers and have books, devotions, podcasts or talks to listen to all year long.

Prepare Him Room: A Daily Advent Devotional

Whether you take time to read in the quiet early morning, or at night by the twinkling lights of the tree, establish an Advent routine that you look forward to each day to keep you accountable.

Curl up under a cozy blanket with a cup of your favorite warm drink.

Underline the parts that speak to you and put the date inside.

Jesus Listens–for Advent and Christmas, Padded Hardcover, with Full Scriptures: Prayers for the Season

Pick out a journal for the season as well and journal your thoughts and reflections each day from what you are learning and applying.

Add in special memories with friends and family too.

You’ll have a beautiful memory book of this Advent to go back to.

Joy To The World: Daily Readings For Advent

Is there anyone you could share this post with to spread the Advent reading tradition with?

Pass on the link or gift them a copy that interests you too.

Hidden Christmas: The Surprising Truth Behind the Birth of Christ

The First Songs of Christmas: A 31-Day Advent Devotional: Meditations on Luke 1 & 2

The Greatest Gift: Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas

Because of Bethlehem: Love Is Born, Hope Is Here

Your heart may be yearning for just what an Advent reading can give.

Some devotions even have extensions like adult coloring books, journals or scripture memory cards.

Christmas, Red Radio, Because of Bethlehem, Adult Coloring Book

I pray that this Christmas will hold even deeper meaning for you and a focus on Jesus Christ our Savior’s birth and that one of these devotion books can help you do just that.

Decorating with Thermos

My thermos collection started about ten years ago when we moved to our cabin.

I began collecting all kinds of campy items full of nostalgia and thermos were one of the most fun to find.

There are so many different brands, styles, patterns to collect so I am constantly finding a new one to add.

I’ve written several posts to inspire you to start your own collections and how to style thermos into your decor and entertaining.

Holiday Thermos Decor

There are so many ways to use my thermos for Christmas.

I’ve used them on my mantel, in coffee bars, in the kitchen and in vignettes.

At this time of year a few of my thermos get showcased, my Stelly Holiday.

WIth their Holiday named branding and green and white color, they are perfect for Christmas decorating.

There are a few different sizes and patterns to keep your eyes out for.

They look great styled together.

Did you know I own an antique shop?

It’s worth the visit to Wisconsin to come see White Arrows Home the Shop or you can always shop online from anywhere. Our entire store is online.

We bring new treasures into The Shop every day. Here’s a little of what we brought in just this week.

We have a huge thermos section and often there’s a Holiday thermos for sale in it.

Next up you are headed over to my friend Rachel’s blog, The Ponds Farmhouse.

I’m so excited to join the Dinner Club gals again for another fun blog hop sharing tablescapes and recipes all around a theme together.

Last year, I was part of their Tailgating themed tour.

You can read the post HERE.

Football Tailgate

Virtual Progressive Dinner

Have you ever participated in a progressive dinner.

They are such a fun way to gather and entertain.

One home hosts apps and cocktails, another dinner and the third dessert.

For many years we did this tradition with neighbors.

Christmas Decor wood trees in a vintage box

This blog hop tour is a lot like the progressive dinner idea, but virtually from blog to blog.

At the bottom of this post you’ll find links to all those participating.

If you are going in order then you are coming over from Midwest Life & Style.

I’m sure you loved Jen’s tips on How To Style A Rustic Christmas Tablescape In 5 Simple Steps as much as I did.

Welcome to Camp Paradise

This month they chose Christmas at the Cabin as their theme and it couldn’t be more perfect for me, because I actually live in a full log cabin, called Camp Paradise.

log cabin, cabin, cabin in the snow, log home

We enjoy our cabin in every season.

It sits lakeside and we enjoy all the water sports in summer.

In winter the lake freezes so solid trucks can drive on it.

We clear a spot for an ice rink, snowmobile and ice fish.

Winter Cabin

Christmas is magical in the inside the cabin as well and I love decorating, adding festive details and carrying on traditions.

Collecting holiday dishes is one of my favorites.

I love setting the table for my family and mixing and matching my collections.

I only buy a few new things a year and then enjoy pulling out old favorites.

This year on a recent trip to Duluth I stopped at Home Goods and fell in love with these woven placemats and Christmas tree napkins.

In a few days this post will be continued with delicious recipes to enjoy like a creamy potato soup.

The recipes are perfect for a cozy Christmas dinner at the cabin gathered around the table with friends or family.

These green dishes…

A few years ago I fell in love with the Lefton holly pattern.

It’s been fun to collect because I don’t find a piece every time i go antiquing, but often enough to keep me interested.

I especially love these snack trays with tea cups.

I love how the colors pop against the wood of the chairs and tables.

The white knit placemats frame the pacesetting well followed by the plaid dinner plate.

These old cottage shutters are a favorite find from a local antique store.

I didn’t know what I was going to do with them, but knew I needed them.

They sat in a closet for a few years and then I go the idea to put them on my mantel at Christmas.

Last year I got the idea to hang them on the wall of our sunroom dining room and have loved them here.

cabin Christmas Mantel

Here’s the dining room set for every day dining.

Cabin Dining Room Table

Thanks so much for spending time with me at the cabin.

Next up on the tour are my friends Ann and Anne Marie, neighbors who blog together at Simply 2 Moms.
