With a big family and often lots of friends and guests around having a space to put all the “stuff” is essential. We need a landing spot at the front door and also at the backdoor that leads to the lake.
Our entry way just inside the front door has space to house cubbies where all the kids can store their shoes, extra hats, gloves, sports equipment… Not only does that keep everything organized and off the floor, it keeps me from hearing, “MOM!!! WHERE’S MY…?”
I found these chicken wire baskets at Walmart. It helps the clutter to stay contained and out of sight. I designed the cubbies and had a carpenter build them for me. I wanted them to be deep enough and big enough for backpacks or baskets. The barn wood flag is from a local shop.
A bench or somewhere to sit while taking off boots or waiting to head to school is an essential piece. I keep baskets under the bench that hold umbrellas, extra hats and gloves, stadium blankets and other items we need often when walking out the door. The hand painted bench says, “Nobody gets to See the Wizard, No Way, No How.” Because you know…there’s no place like home!
