My girls and I found a fun way to spend time together with our new weekly girls night in tradition.

As the mother of five, I love spending time with all my kids around. It makes my heart so full.
I also love getting one on one time with each of my kids when I get the chance.
There are times when it’s also fun to get time with just my two daughters having some girl time.
This Summer I was blessed to have extra time with my oldest home for a few months before she headed to Germany for the next year.
We decided it was the perfect time to add in some new traditions like a weekly girls night in.
Girls Night In Idea
We decided that Sunday evenings we would watch a movie and theme our dinner to match the show.
We’d also each bring along along any pampering products each of us wanted to enjoy like painting our nails, toes or a facial mask.
The Movies and Menus
Here are the movies we started with and some ideas for what to recipes to enjoy for the theme.
Mystic Pizza
Mystic Pizza was one of my favorite movies as a preteen/teen girl. And my girls love it too!
I even went to visit the real Mystic Pizza one Summer on a trip to Cape Cod.
It didn’t look anything like the movie, but I got the t-shirt. Wish I still had it!
Pizza is the perfect pairing and can be so easy.
Get take out from your favorite spot.
Or make your own starting with your own crust or store bought flat breads.
Here are some pizza recipes to try:
- French Bread Pesto Chicken Pizza
- Pear, Prosciutto and Gorgonzola Pizza
- Blueberry, Feta and Honey- Caramelized Onion Naan Pizza
Stream Mystic Pizza HERE.
Mamma Mia
Watching Mamma Mia, the first movie or Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, are great fun!
We can’t help but sing along and dance every time!
Greek food is the must match with these movies because of their setting.
Grab gyros from your favorite take out or make these recipes for the night.
Stream Mamma Mia, the first movie or Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
Sound of Music
One of our absolute favorites is Sound of Music.
Another one we love to sing along with.
It’s been a fun movie to watch with my girls at their different ages.
Like when they were little and they wanted to sing scooting up the stairs to bed after.
Or as they got older and wanted to be 16 going on 17.
German/Austrian food is delicious to enjoy along for this evening.
- German Krautstrudel: An Easy Savory Cabbage Roll
- Chicken Schnitzel
- Authentic German Pretzels (Laugenbrezeln)
Stream The Sound of Music HERE.
Under the Tuscan Sun
It was girls first time to watch Under the Tuscan Sun this Summer.
I had read the book years and years ago and loved the movie.
They both absolutely loved the movie too.
Italian food is the theme for this night.
Stream Under the Tuscan Sun HERE.
Les Misérables
For Les Mis we enjoyed French cuisine.
We had cheese, apples and a sliced baguette. Some wine for us older girls and this sparking lavender drink in a beautiful bottle for my younger daughter.
Stream Les Misérables HERE.
Some other movies we’ve loved:
You can pick your movie first and then choose the menu.
Or you can decide a food theme/country and then pick your movie.
Spa Night
A fun layer to add to this is spa night.
We could do our weekly facials, manis and pedis while watching.
Whatever each of us wanted or colors we wanted to paint our nails we would bring down to our basement family room where we watched.
