Here in the Northwoods we have a time between Winter and Spring when the snow is melting and together with the sand and salt from the roads is making everything a muddy mess. The lakes are frozen for a little bit longer, but we are putting away our winter gear. We are saying goodbye to our snow shoes, cross country skis and snowmobiles until next year. We are bringing out our rainboots and choosing windbreakers over parkas.
It’s amazing how in the fall when the temps hit the 50s we bundle up, but in the spring it hits the 50s and I’m negotiating with my kids that it’s not shorts and t-shirt weather quite yet.
We wear rainboots almost all the time right now. The kids pull them on to tromp into the woods to check their forts. I wear them on the way to work out, run errands or pick up the kids. Wearing your wellies to work and changing shoes there keeps the mud on the boots and our other shoes in good shape.
We in the Northwoods make the best out of all that nature gives us. Luckily, we can accessorize. Cute rainboots, raincoats, umbrellas… yes, please! Plus, we know that summer is coming!
Even the frequent trips to the carwash can be looked at not as a chore, but as a little bit of “me” time. I love reading magazines. I keep a few in the car and can use my wait time at the car wash to find great ideas for our family and home in a few of my favorites.
Our entry way set up is essential at this time of the year. Muddy, wet boots, coats and umbrellas have a place to dry out without getting the whole house dirty.
