These painted wooden spoons are an easy DIY that make a great handmade gift for Mother’s Day or any time throughout the year.
I’m excited to make these painted wooden spoons as part this month’s Pinterest Challenge hosted by Erlene from My Pinterventures.. I was looking on Pinterest for a fun, easy and affordable gift I could make myself for a Mother’s Day gift. These spoons were the perfect idea. They would also make a great hostess gift, birthday gift or teacher thank you.

To start this project I bought a wooden spoon and spatulas.
I found a dish towel and oven mitt that would coordinate with my mom’s kitchen in blue and white. You can choose towels based on a holiday, a theme or to match your mom’s decor.
I decided to paint the handles of the spoons with blue and white to match the dish towel and mitt. I used craft paint we had around the house from other projects. This project didn’t take much paint. I usually use a plastic disposable plate as my paint palette.
Using painters tape, I taped off a pattern and start by painting the blue stripes.
Then after the blue dried, I took off the tape and painted in the white stripes. It took two-three coats on each stripe to get rid of the brush strokes and get good coverage.
You can use only one color, or as many as you want. You can go all the way up the handle or just 2/3 of the way up like I did. Be creative and enjoy knowing you can’t go wrong! They will look beautiful anyway you choose to decorate them.
You could combine them into a bigger gift with more cooking supplies, a cookbook or even tie on a favorite recipe.
Then simply tie a bow around them and you have the perfect gift made with love.

Fun! I love the nautical feel of these…if we still had our boat, these would be perfect. If you were wondering, yes, I cooked on the sailboat! I once even made individual beef wellington. A wonderful dinner while at anchor in a quiet little cove!
