It’s so fun to share at the beginning of each month what I will be reading! I love to share hoping that it will encourage you to read too! Whether you are a voracious reader or you just set a New Year’s Resolution to start reading, I’m here to encourage you.
Take my list of what I’m reading and choose to read along with me, choose just one or all of them! If you already have books going right now, just simply pin these images to Pinterest as a reminder of what you might like to read next.
The books I share each month I have not read, they are usually ones that have been recommended to me or I’ve seen while browsing the aisles of Walmart or our local book store, The Shade Tree.
This month, I thought it would be fun to take all the recommendations from one of my favorite fellow readers, Anne Bogel. I’m choosing from her December 16th blog post where she shared her Favorite Books of 2020.
Anne’s also the author of several books I’ve loved. I recommended her most recent published work, Don’t Overthink It in this post last March. Her blog, Modern Mrs. Darcy, and her podcast, What Should I Read Next, are also favorites of mine.
Each month I read at least four books. Here’s how I do it.
Quiet Time Book
I always have a book going that I read to encourage my faith. I usually read this book in the morning before the house wakes up. One chapter a day works out really well and helps start my day off great!
Anne didn’t have suggestions in her top 2020 post for my quiet time book so I choose one I’ve had on mine, Faith by Jimmie Carter.
Read Faith with me!
Wait Time Book
I am never bored and one of the reasons is that I keep a book with me at all times. In my car or in my purse I have a book going each month that inspires me personally or professionally. It is easy to put these books down and pick them right back up as time permits.
I chose She Come by it Natural by Sarah Smarsh from Anne’s list. Behind the scenes of Dolly’s life and the stories behind her songs fill this book.
Read She Come by it Natural with me!
For the Love of Reading
I feel lost if I don’t have a book going that I can’t stop thinking about, a book that I get lost in just for the pure fun of reading. I typically read this book on long drives when I’m the passenger or in front of the fireplace in the evenings or on weekends.
The Jane Austen Society is a fun read for all Jane Austen fans and those that love a story like I do of the people and characters in a small village. The setting of this story is the small town of Chawton, the town Jane Austen lived in before she died. The story is set in my favorite historical time period, the 1940s as the villagers ban together to stop a business who buys the Austen estate from razing the home.
Read The Jane Austen Society with me!
Chore Time Book
My chores actually became fun when I got hooked on Audiobooks. These are one of my favorite things! I sounds crazy, but I can’t wait to load the dishwasher, fold clothes or clean the bathroom because I want to know what happens next in the book I’m listening to!
I chose Shiner by Amy Jo Burns. My curiosity was sparked as soon as I finished the synopsis of this book. It made me think of a few other books I’ve loved over the past few years. Though memoirs not literary novels, like Shiner, the family stories from The Glass Castle and Hillbilly Elegy with their ties to Appalachia got me interested in this Appalachia tale too. Wren, Shiner’s main character, has a father who is a powerful preacher and snake handler who performs an amazing healing that goes wrong with traumatic consequences. This made me think of the healing tent revivals in This Tenderland.
Listen to Shiner or read with Me!

Kristin, Thanks for the recommendations. I always love to find a great new book. I only read just before bed and never thought to put my headphones on to listen to books while doing chores. That’s generally the time I spend ruminating around in my brain for blog post ideas! Ha! Happy New Year!

Good Morning! I appreciate your lists. These days I read ‘cozy mysteries’ mostly before bed. I did realy like your suggetion of a chapeter a day for reading a chapter from faith building book a day. in years past, i would consume those types of books many chapters at a time. Limiting to a chapter a day is more reasonable for me these days.

Did I ever tell you that your suggestion of Karianne’s book is what first introduced her to me? That was way before we connected!
