My friend and follower Sarah reached out to my on Instagram with a question. I love answering peoples’ questions! This one was all about “a cabin for him.”
She was looking for ideas to help a friend who had recently become single and was going to be living alone in his cabin. Wanting to help him style the spaces to be masculine and special and to feel like home.
I was so excited to help give some ideas and I thought you would be interested in them too.
Here are elements I think are fun to include in a gentleman’s cabin:
Entry Way
Add a bench or simple stool under a row of hooks or next to a coat rack in the entryway. Add a few cowboy hats or favorite ball caps, a few flannels and keep a few open for guests, and you have instant decor.
A Bar
If he enjoys a drink in the evenings, on the weekends or when friends are over, it is great to have a bar station that is always set and ready. I think they look great when set up on top of a vintage dresser or cabinet. One of my favorite uses of an old dry sink is as a bar. Antique workbenches and old armoires work well too.
Wall Decor
Does he love to fish? Hunt? Ski? Find some vintage sports equipment and turn it into a feature, a conversation piece. Fishing signs, creels, poles, etc on the wall in a grouping become automatic art. Finding vintage sport photos and blowing them up into framable posters is a great idea too.
Dining Room
Use a ping pong table as a dining room table. It can multifunction and be fun. Keep chairs or benches along the wall and then pull up when you are ready to eat. You can even just get a classy removable net to keep on and then take off at dinner time.
Patterns
Use handsome Pendleton blankets or plaids on the beds and backs of sofa.
Workspace
Give him a space to create and work that is unique and special. Hang a boat on a wall to make shelves or find antique tools and office supplies.
Wood
Wood as art, whether stacks of wood, photos of wood or slices of wood brings instant masculine touches to a cabin.
Big chunky wood stumps can become sink bases and adding tin to a wall is also a great idea.
Antlers
If he likes to hunt, antlers as curtain tie backs, in a bowl on the coffee table, as towel racks, cabinet pulls,
Arrows
Arrows coming out of a trophy or used in art are a great way to add masculine charm to a cabin.
Flags and Maps
Flags and maps give handsome patriotic touches and an ode to adventure.

Kristin, I love all of these ideas. I wouldn’t mind having them in a cabin I shared with my hubby. I really love how they used the canoe turned on the side, I have never seen one used like that before! Beautiful!
