Monday we went to Opening Day at Miller Park in Milwaukee to watch the Brewer’s play the Giants. We had a great time tailgating before the game. Wisconsin knows how to tailgate! Top on the list: Brats & Beer. It happened to be SNOWING and freezing. It felt more like a Packer tailgate, than the start of baseball! But we had layers and our friends had brought a heater and with great conversation we had a lot of fun despite the cold.
Brian and I went down to Milwaukee the night before and stayed at an amazing boutique hotel, The Ironhorse. It opened in 2008 inside a 1907 warehouse that originally housed the Berger Bedding Company. The Ironhorse takes it’s name from the railroad and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Trains and Harleys are both nicknamed “Ironhorse”. The railroad still runs by the building and the Harley Davidson Museum is nearby.
I find a lot of inspiration when I travel and The Ironhorse was full of beautiful Industrial Design, Americana and Luxurious Comfort, all elements I love.
The inviting lobby is full of textures~ leather, velvet, chrome, iron, nailheads. The amazing lofty space is a great space to gather or to find a comfy spot to read, work or sip on coffee. The Hemlock and heart Pine posts and beams as well as the Cream City Brick are all original to the building. Antiques and Industrial Era treasures are on display throughout the building. The flag…what a statement piece!
We had delicious small bites and custom cocktails in their bar Branded after we checked in. The science lab chairs were actually very comfortable while sitting under the abundant hanging bulbs. Superhero comic artwork surrounds the bar and giant windows give lots of light and views of the city.

The hallways have elegant zebra carpet set against tobacco and sage walls.
How about a game of pool? An overhead glass windowed garage door opens to let in the beautiful afternoon and access to the patio.
The hotel’s designers gave great attention to details. There were items all around that reminded you of the historical era of the Industrial Revolution while still giving the space modern touches. My favorite part~ Teddy’s smiling face!
Milwaukee’s Colectivo coffee is served on an industrial table in the lobby. Saucers full of coffee beans catch drips under the percolators.
We had a delicious breakfast before heading out to the Brewer game in The Library of the Ironhorse. This hotel is definitely a place I will plan to come back to. Add it to your travel plans when you come to Milwaukee whether for work or pleasure.
