I have always been a fan of Buffalo Plaid. I’ll never forget my first week living in The Northwoods of Wisconsin when I was at the hardware store and looked down the aisle and one gentleman was in a Buffalo Plaid coat and the other in a Houndstooth hat. I knew I was home!
Buffalo Plaid is trendy right now, but timeless for cabins, cottages and rustic decor when used for a statement piece or in layers. Whether you call it Buffalo Plaid or Buffalo Check; whether you like it in traditional red and black or in white and black, or navy and black, white and gray or even yellow and white this fun pattern can be used in all seasons and in every room of your home.

Layers
Smaller items in buffalo plaid layered into your decor add color and interest to your spaces. This little dish is the perfect tray for my coffee cup and gingersnap snack on my desk.
A few pillows on the bed add the pattern in bright and cheery black and white. I like to mix and match my plaids of different patterns like the buffalo check of this tray with the plaid dish and mug.

Buffalo Plaid in All Seasons
Autumn
Buffalo Check looks great mixed with other patterns. It sounds crazy, but for me it’s a neutral, meaning anything looks great with it. Even mixing other buffalo plaid colors works well. The oranges of Autumn are one of my favorites to mix with both the red and black and white and black patterns.
Layer in pillows on chairs to make quick updates to your decor.
White Arrows Home Hint~ An easy way to quickly change up a space is to pull a dining chair or two away from the table, like this photo below. Add a few pillows to the chairs and a few seasonal decor pieces in and in a matter of minutes a corner or stretch of wall is festive.
Winter
These Buffalo Plaid bowls from Kohls work great above the coffee bar to hold Kcups.
Mix the pattern in with a variety of throw pillows on a welcome bench or a quilt over the stair railings.
Spring
Buffalo checks in brighter colors can freshen up things for spring, like this mint and white dish cloth.
Summer
Buffalo plaid is welcoming and cheerful all summer long, these chairs are favorites for all of our visitors all season long!
