Our family loves to play games together. These are some of our favorite games to play as a family, with a big group of guests or for my husband and I to sit back and laugh hysterically watching the kids play. We think your family will love them too!
Games make a great Christmas gift for a child in your life, an awesome gift for family friends or even a fun hostess gift when going to a family party!
These are our Top Ten Games for the season. Enjoy!

All of these games are enjoyed by everyone in our family from adults down to eight year olds.
Top Ten Family Games
Googly Eyes is like Pictionary wearing bifocals. You draw what is on the card while wearing giant glasses you can change out the lenses in. There are different colored lenses to choose from. It’s impossible not to laugh through the entire game!
Many an intense strategy battle has been fought over a game of Catan. As players build cities and villages while earning natural resources, they must decide the best places to settle and protect their land.
This is a game we traditionally play as an entire, giant family over the Christmas Holidays. Nana is the all time reader and the others, sometimes 20 of us, spend our time trying to be creative and then laughing like crazy at everyone’s answers. The kids beg to play and we rarely turn them down!
Speak Out will get everyone laughing so hard they will be drooling! You know those plastic contraptions the dentist puts in your mouth so you can keep your mouth open? This game has you try to speak phrases while wearing them. Everyone else has to guess what you are saying!
Blokus is a game we have enjoyed for years and are still debating whether Nana, Gee Gee or Uncle Tam are the all time winningest player. This game can stay out on the table and wait for a group of four to gather to play. If you are good at puzzles, you will especially like this strategy game!
Probably the most popular game when friends come to the lake is Left Center Right. Three special dice are rolled and your playing pieces or quarters, if you want to use money, are either sent to the Center “Pot”, the player on your left, player on your right, or stay by you. No one is out until the whole game is over and the person will the last playing piece is left to win the Pot.
Left Center Right
Ticket to Ride uses lots of strategy and teaches you a bit of geography along the way. Following your routes across the United States, you try to be the first one to reach all of your card assigned destinations. Since fellow players can be blocked, the competition gets exciting.
Rummikub has been one of my favorite games forever. The kids know its the easiest way to get me to play a game with them if they ask me to play Rummikub.
There is never a time when my family visits that the kids don’t pull out one of my favorite childhood games, Scattergories. I think they have the most fun laughing as they debate whether their creative answers deserve points or not.
No family game collection is complete without Farkle. All your points can be lost in one roll of Farkle and to the laughs and cheers of all the other players.
Our family also loves Checkers, Chess, Monopoly and Guess Who. Snow days, rainy days or any day gathering around a game is great bonding time.
One of my favorite things is when the grandparents come to visit and teach the kids their games. The kids can’t wait to spend hours and hours around the table visiting laughing and making great memories. Grandma and Grandpa have taught them card games like 500 Rummy, Sheephead and Poker. Nana and Papa play cribbage and canasta.
I hope you have found some games for your family to enjoy in our list of favorites. Happy Holidays and have fun making memories!
