When we were touring possible lake homes with our realtor, one home left a lasting impression, not just for it’s beauty, but for how it smelled. They were burning pine scented candles every time we came to take a look. We were city folks at the time, wanting a retreat in The Northwoods of Wisconsin and instantly felt relaxed and at home because of a candle. It made me feel instantly cozy and peaceful.

In recent posts (here and here) I shared how candles are an essential part of adding cozy to your home. Here are six of my favorites.

Woodfire

Inspired by nature and crafted by hand, Woodfire Candle Co use wood wicks in their artisan candles handmade on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. They use wood wicks because they crackle just like sitting by a real wood fire. All of their candles are made from Soy grown here in the USA. They sell candles in apothecary jars, mason jars and jelly jars. With fragrances like Sweater Weather and Cozy Cabin I’m sure it’s no surprise that they are perfect in my cabin! And they will be perfect in your home too!

Strider Northwoods

Strider Northwoods has handcrafted raw goods in their online Etsy Mercantile like these favorite candles. They turn inspiration from the lakes and forests of the Northwoods and the UP into woodworking and makering. Coasters, bottle openers and candles like my favorite First Frost are all available. And maybe one of my favorite parts- the candles come with a box of matches that say BE THE LIGHT.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights candles are artisan made in the USA since 1978. Their company sells a wide variety of items like tapers, fire starters, aromatherapy fragrances, wax melts, roomsprays and more. Shop on their website by collections, fragrances or styles. My favorite are the Timber Woods candles. I love the smell, the size (three wicks) and the plaid label!

Lake Effect & Co.

I first found Lake Effect & Co. at a pop up shop in Manitowish Waters and love not only their candles, but all their products perfect for those whose hearts dwell on the lake. They have hats, clothing and home products. My favorite candle is the Bourbon Spiked Cider. Their candles are hand poured in small batches in Wisconsin. One of the best parts of shopping with Lake Effect, 5% of all purchases benefit the Alliance for the Great Lakes.

Inspire Light Candle Co

With traditional, fall and winter scents, Inspire Light Candle Co has a wide variety of choices for your home. What drew me first to this small company was their candles inside a mug, perfect for my cabin and this coffee lover! They sell candles in mugs or mason jars. Here are a few of their fun scents for winter: Our First Tree, Breakfast In Bed, Flannel PJs and Snowy Fireside. So hard to choose a favorite! What’s really wonderful is that a portion of every candle sold is donated to their monthly partner organization helping those in need.

Driftwood Decor

Lora, of Driftwood Decor, is one of the most encouraging people on Instagram and her company has an online home decor shop. She carries 100% organic candles in yummy fragrances like Toffee Crunch and Frosting. Nothing is better than burning a candle that smells like something fresh out of the oven!

Candles are not only wonderful to have on hand to burn in your home, but also make great gifts for housewarmings, birthdays, Mother’s Day or as a hostess gift. (See more ideas for gifts here.)
