Setting a table to welcome family home for the holidays is such a fun tradition. When I was a little girl that was where you would find me, not in the kitchen helping with the cooking, but out decorating the table.
I’m so glad you have come to visit! I’m joining 24 fellow bloggers to share our Thanksgiving tablescapes. Thanks so much to Chloe of Celebrate and Decorate for organizing all the inspiration. You can find a full list of links for the tour at the bottom of this post so you won’t miss any of the beautiful table ideas.
I always start by thinking about what dishes I want to use. I have several sets of vintage dishes that work well in the Fall. I always like to mix and match too. This year I used salad plates with wheat on them that I found at the flea market. It’s a popular pattern, the Homer Laughlin Golden Wheat.
The wheat dishes were produced from 1949-1966 and added to the Duz Detergent as an incentive. Homer Laughlin is most famous for their Fiesta line of china.
I layered the Golden Wheat on top of Green dishes I found this year at Hobby Lobby. I loved the color and pattern around the edge and knew they would be fun to layer with so many of my other dishes. I also used woven placemats from Hobby Lobby underneath.
Then I decide the tablecloth. Last year’s was a vintage find. This year I used two plaid ones from Hobby Lobby. I layered the two together so they would be long enough for my table.
Next, comes my accessories- the napkins, silverware and goblets.
And finally, I decide the centerpiece. I had been thinking about how so many people decorate early for Christmas. We like to enjoy the traditions and specialness of Thanksgiving so don’t do full Christmas until the weekend after, but I had been thinking about a way to merge the two a bit. The gold trees are from Hobby Lobby.
As I often take my cues from the forest surrounding our home. I was inspired by the birch trees this year. With all the Fall leaves already down in our area in November, the white and brown birch trunks pop against the rest of the brown woods. So I decided to use my birch chunks down the middle of the table.
Around the birch I tucked floral picks of leaves, acorns, pinecones and berries.
Last year I used these plates. I found them in a local antique shop. The colors and fruit on them make them perfect for the Fall table.
With this table from last year I didn’t use a tablecloth, I used placemats and a fringed black and tan throw as a table runner.

I love the way you merged a little Christmas with Thanksgiving Kristin! Especially this year with Thanksgiving so late, we will all be in a mad rush once the turkey is eaten! Your centerpiece is so lovely, and the deer look beautiful with the tall cone trees! I love the logs and berries and all the textures and the muted color palette, it is rustic, yet elegant, perfect for your Thanksgiving celebration!

Kristin, I really like how you blended a nod toward Christmas with your Thanksgiving table. Your home surroundings are a perfect backdrop to the season, and all your elements work really well together. Hobby Lobby provides such an amazing assortment of affordable and useful items, and your green plates, placemats and tablecloths are just a few of those examples. I smile to see the Homer Laughlin plates, and how the family business from my home state of West Virginia makes its way into homes all across the nation. I always love to read a stylist’s thought process for how a table comes together, and I find it so interesting your centerpiece came last. I would’ve guessed you built the table around the centerpiece as a first!
I hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful holiday season.

Thank you Rita!! I love hearing from fellow vintage lovers because you see the details that I so treasure! Do you know I did the table the same way and then did a different centerpiece. Wrote my blog post, then got up last night with a burst of inspiration and changed the centerpiece then my post!!

Kristin, your tablescape is beauty in the Northwoods! I love all of the natural elements and how you used the woods around your home as an inspiration. It is a table you could have up all winter long. The green plates from Hobby Lobby is a perfect purchase and give a pop of color suited to a table reflecting nature. Your beautiful plaid tablecloth speaks volumes in a log home. The two seem to go together like any match destined to be made. I am in love with your lovely dining room set and wished to have purchased something like this for our log home. It is the perfect and stunning choice for a log home and mirrors your tablescape style too. Gorgeous! Many blessings to you and your family for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Kristen, a perfect table for your home setting and to bridge the two holidays. Enjoyed hearing the story where the wheat plates came from. My first job was with Procter and Gamble, and there still were hard core Duz fans back then. And, I would have never thought of HL as the. Source for those fab green plates — they look they came from Italy! A great idea to use two tablecloths across such a large table, I’ll bet no one will ever notice. Especially like the pieces of birch incorporated into your centerpiece. Funny though, I start styling a table in reverse though, usually figuring out the centerpiece.
PS could you please update the link to my table to the actual post?
