Strengthen your faith and your friendships with these must-read Bible Study books for women.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

I have participated in Bible Studies in many different ways over the years and love the insights I get from great teaching in the lessons and coordinating workbooks and the other women in my study groups.

My weekly church study has around 50 women in it! The group is large, but we sit in table groups facilitated by a group leader where we can have more intimate conversations and make sure everyone gets a chance to share.

I’m also in a Bible Study that meets monthly with a group of around ten friends in my home. One of my favorite parts of this group is that it has grown to also include several of the members young adult daughters. Its so fun to get perspectives from different ages.

Here are some of my favorite Bible Studies I’ve done in the past few years. You may have done some of them as well or others by these same authors.

Priscilla Shirer

Some of my favorite Bible Studies have been by Priscilla Shirer. I’m always in awe of how she can take a few verses of scripture and pull them apart into a series of lessons that go so deep and help me see God’s word in new ways.

The workbooks give daily “homework” that easily fits in my time schedule and really helps me come away with more practical wisdom and understanding.

Priscilla’s video lessons at the end of the week captivate me and get me excited to learn more.

Here are a few of my favorites by Priscilla that I have done recently.

Gideon

In Gideon, Priscilla takes us on a compelling journey through the life of Gideon, a somewhat unlikely hero from the Bible. With her engaging storytelling, she explores themes of fear, doubt, and the power of God’s calling. she dives into Gideon’s story to show how God can use anyone, no matter their insecurities, to accomplish great things. She invites readers to reflect on their own fears and how God equips us to step out in faith, even when we feel inadequate. Packed with practical insights and relatable examples, this book encourages us to trust God’s strength over our weaknesses and embrace the unique purpose He has for each of us. Whether you’re familiar with Gideon’s story or hearing it for the first time, Priscilla’s approach makes it feel relevant and inspiring for today’s challenge

Elijah

In Elijah, Priscilla takes us on an eye-opening exploration of the life and ministry of the prophet Elijah. She highlights Elijah’s incredible faith, his moments of doubt, and the powerful ways God worked through him. Diving into themes like spiritual drought, burnout, and the importance of listening for God’s whispers in our lives, she encourages us to reflect on our own spiritual journeys, reminding us that even the most faithful among us can face tough seasons. This book not only deepens our understanding of Elijah’s story but also inspires us to trust in God’s provision and guidance, no matter what challenges we face. It’s a great read for anyone looking to strengthen their faith and see how God can use us, just as He did with Elijah.

Discerning the Voice of God

Discerning the Voice of God is a heartfelt journey into understanding how to recognize God’s voice in our lives. Priscilla shares relatable stories and solid biblical insights, making it easy to connect with her message. She emphasizes the importance of prayer and diving into scripture to tune our hearts to what God is saying. With practical tips for cutting through the distractions and doubts that often cloud our spiritual ears, she guides us in learning to hear God clearly amidst the noise of everyday life. This book isn’t just a guide; it’s an invitation to deepen our relationship with God and embrace the purpose He has for us. Whether you’re new to faith or have been walking with God for years, this read will inspire you to seek His voice more actively and confidently.

She Reads Truth

I first became a fan of She Reads Truth when I ordered an Advent reading from them years ago. Since then I’ve ordered their Advent books each year. I love that they do a book for women and a similar one for men. At Thanksgiving each year I gift them to my kids and we are all able to read along during the season together. It’s become a very special tradtion with my sons and daughters.

Advent

This past Summer I started leading a weekly Bible Study with a friend and we invited a bunch of girls we knew, from a variety of denominations and at different points in their faith walk.

In looking for a Bible Study that would help bring us all to a common starting point Open Your Bible by Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams was such a great choice.

Open Your Bible

Open Your Bible is a refreshing invitation to dive deeper into Scripture. Amanda and Raechel break down the importance of not just reading the Bible, but truly engaging with it, and they do so in a warm and relatable way. They encourage readers to see the Bible as a living, breathing source of hope and guidance, rather than just a dusty book on a shelf. With practical tips and personal stories, the girls show how to make Bible study a part of your everyday life. Their goal is to help you feel empowered to open your Bible, understand it better, and apply its truths to your own journey. Whether you’re new to studying the Bible or looking to reignite your passion for it, this book is like having a conversation with friends who genuinely want to see you grow in your faith.

Jen Wilkin

Abide

In Abide, Jen Wilkin invites us to explore what it truly means to live in close relationship with God through His Word. With her signature blend of deep insight and approachable language, Jen emphasizes the importance of not just reading the Bible, but allowing it to shape our lives and deepen our faith. She encourages readers to cultivate a habit of abiding in Scripture, highlighting how this practice can transform our understanding of God and ourselves. Through practical guidance and thoughtful reflections, Jen helps us navigate the challenges of staying connected to God in a busy world. If you’re looking to grow in your faith and experience a more intimate relationship with God, Jen is passionate about helping you thrive spiritually.

My current Bible Study is Jen Wilken’s Sermon on the Mount.

In Sermon on the Mount, Jen takes us on an insightful journey through one of the most impactful sections of Scripture. She unpacks Jesus’ teachings in a way that’s both relatable and thought-provoking, encouraging us to dig deeper into what it means to live out His words in our daily lives. Jen explores key themes like humility, mercy, and the true nature of righteousness, making it clear that Jesus was calling us to a radical way of living. She helps us see how these teachings are still relevant today. This book is a refreshing guide that challenges us to embody the values of God’s Kingdom and live out our faith with purpose and integrity.

Lysa TerKeurst

I had a season where I wasn’t in fellowship for my Bible Studies after just moving to a new town, but still wanted to dive deeper into Scripture in a meaningful way even in my waiting to connect with new friends. I used Lysa TerKeurst’s Finding I Am.

Lysa TerKeurst invites us to embark on a personal journey of discovering our true identity in Christ in Finding I Am. Through her relatable insights, Lysa shares how the seven “I Am” statements of Jesus can transform the way we see ourselves and our relationship with God. She addresses common struggles, like feeling inadequate or lost, and offers encouragement and hope through Scripture. Lysa combines her personal experiences with biblical truths, making it easy to connect and reflect on our own lives. This book is not just about gaining knowledge; it’s a heartfelt invitation to deepen your faith and embrace the fullness of who God says you are.

I have a group of friends that I’m reading through the New Testament with right now. It’s a three month plan with The Bible Recap with Tara Leigh Cobble on the Bible App. Everything is right in the app giving you the daily reading plan and then a video recap from Tara Leigh and her “God Shot” for that scripture. The app even has a spot where those of us reading together can leave discussion thoughts in a chat.

There are so many more studies that are wonderful to do, many can be found through Lifeway.

Most of the books come with video access so you can preview, watch and rewatch any of the teachings that go along with the readings.

There are also resources if you want to lead the study for a group of women.

If you are interested in doing a Bible Study you can either join in with an active group or pull together your own. You may have several friends who are interested in doing one too.

But start by checking with what your own church is offering in Women’s Ministry. They may have a variety of options on different topics and at different times and days.

If you decide to lead one on your own you can choose to host in your home and use one of the studies with videos included and you can help lead discussion around it guided by the prompts in the study books.

Leading a Bible Study

Here are some tips to help you create a meaningful and engaging environment:

  1. Pray for Guidance: Begin with prayer, asking for wisdom and guidance as you lead. This sets a spiritual tone for the group.
  2. Choose Relevant Material: Select Bible study materials that resonate with the group’s needs and interests. Consider themes like identity, faith, or overcoming challenges.
  3. Create a Welcoming Atmosphere: Foster a safe and open environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing. Encourage honesty and vulnerability.
  4. Encourage Participation: Ask open-ended questions that invite discussion. Make sure everyone has a chance to share their thoughts and insights.
  5. Be Flexible: While it’s good to have a plan, be open to the direction the conversation takes. Sometimes the most valuable discussions happen unexpectedly.
  6. Incorporate Different Learning Styles: Use a mix of activities, such as reading, discussion, prayer, and even creative exercises, to engage everyone.
  7. Foster Relationships: Encourage bonding among members outside of study time through group outings or service projects. Building relationships enhances the study experience.
  8. Lead by Example: Share your own experiences and struggles in faith, showing that it’s okay to be imperfect. Authenticity can inspire others to open up.
  9. Follow Up: After meetings, check in with group members to see how they’re doing. This shows you care and helps build deeper connections.
  10. End with Prayer: Close each session with a prayer, inviting God to guide and support each participant in their personal journeys.

Cranberries aren’t just for the Thanksgiving table; they can also be a vibrant, seasonal way to add natural beauty to your home decor. Whether you’re hosting a festive dinner, decking the halls for the holidays, or simply looking for a way to bring the cozy charm of winter indoors, cranberries can serve as both a decorative and aromatic element. Here’s how to use these brilliant red berries to add a pop of color and a dash of holiday spirit to your home.

One of the many special things about living in the Northwoods is that there are cranberry farms here. I shared in THIS POST about visiting one.

My friend’s husband is a fourth generation cranberry farmer and I have been able to take tours there and join in for events like Cocktails in the Cranberries where we were able to don waders and walk right into the flooded berries.

My favorite aspects of all these decor ideas is how quickly, easily and affordably they come together.

Cranberry Centerpiece

This is the perfect way to showcase a beautiful and nostalgic antique. Old cranberry scoops can be found in many sizes and made of metal or wood.

Cranberry Decorating for the Holidays

How to:

  • I took an antique cranberry scoop and filled it with faux evergreens, florals, feathers and cranberries. See the details in THIS POST.

Cranberry Tree

The look of this tree is perfect as a table centerpiece or on the sideboard as a focal point among trays of apps.

How to:

  • Grab a styrofoam cone at a hobby shop and using hot glue attach cranberries around the entire shape.
  • Set the finished cone inside a wreath of greens.

Cranberry Garland

A cranberry garland is a timeless and simple way to bring seasonal warmth to your home. Stringing cranberries onto twine or a fine wire is easy, and the end result is striking. You can drape the garland across a mantel, hang it on your Christmas tree, or even hang it around door frames or windows for an extra touch of festivity.

How-to:

  • Thread fresh or dried cranberries onto a needle and string, leaving a small gap between each berry for a natural, rustic look. If you want to preserve them longer, use a needle and thread, or invest in a small, delicate wire for a more polished finish.
  • For a more sophisticated look, mix in small pinecones, popcorn, or cinnamon sticks to add texture and fragrance.

Mixed with Bay Leaves and Oranges

Cranberry Wreath

For a simple, DIY holiday decoration, make cranberry-infused ornaments that add a touch of natural beauty to your Christmas tree. These can be made by threading cranberries onto thin wire or fishing line to form a circular shape.

How-to:

  • Carefully thread cranberries onto a sturdy string or wire to create a small loop or circular shape.
  • Hang the cranberry loop directly onto the tree branches or around the edges of wreaths and garlands for an easy and charming display.

Mixed with Pinecones

The rustic simplicity of this arrangement takes seconds and can stay out all the way through Winter.

How to:

  • Find a favorite container like an enamelware bowl and fill it with pinecones.
  • Tuck in faux berries.

In a Vase

Give the illusion of a vase full of berries with this simple tip. Its a beautiful way to show of a festive holiday bunch of blooms.

How to:

  • Find a large clear vase or canister and add a smaller one filled with water inside.
  • Fill the space between the two canisters with cranberries.
  • Add a bouquet to the inside canister of water.

Floating with Evergreens and Candlelight

This easy DIY can be done with just one candlelight vase added in a vignette or several in a grouping on the coffee table or a line down the middle of the dining room table.

How to:

  • Pull out a mason jar or clear vase
  • Add water, then pieces of evergreen, some cranberries and top with a tea light.

In an Ornament

What an easy project this is with kids or your girlfriends. They can make a great addition to a gift or as a tree filler.

How to:

  • Pick up a few clear plastic ornaments at the dollar or craft store.
  • Pull off the top and drop in cranberries, a sprig of rosemary. and replace the lid.

On Your Cakes

Instantly festive. Your cakes take on a custom look with the addition of some cranberries and leaves.

How to:

  • Be creative with adding berries and leaves to the top of a frosted cake.

On Topiaries

A dramatic impact is added to your holidays with topiaries of cranberries atop beuatiful candlesticks.

How to:

  • Pick up a few styrofoam balls at the hobby store and hot glue cranberries all around them.
  • Set them on top of vases, pots or candlesticks.

The Joy of Cranberries: A Superfood for the Season

Cranberries are one of the few fruits native to North America, and they have certainly earned their place as a beloved holiday staple. Whether they’re swirling in a tangy sauce at Thanksgiving dinner, adding a burst of color to a winter salad, or starring in a refreshing juice, cranberries offer a delightful mix of tartness, flavor, and nutrition. But beyond their seasonal popularity, cranberries are a superfood with a fascinating history and a wealth of health benefits. But truly these vibrant red berries deserve a spot in our kitchens all year long.

In the Cranberries

I honestly never thought too much about cranberries until the past several years. I knew I loved a glass of cranberry juice, munching on Craisins and adding cranberries in recipes, but never thought deeper.

After moving to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, where there a several cranberry farms in Manitowish Waters, I became so curious, interested and fascinated.

There are farms that open up to tours each year and offer field trips to students.

I’ve been blessed to get some behind the scenes tours and events at one of the farms owned by a friend whose husband is a fourth generation farmer at Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company. They are a proud grower/owner with Ocean Spray. They don’t offer public tours, but have an amazing website full of photos, history and information- a cranberry 101.

Bartling's Cranberries in Manitowish Waters

Other areas in the Northwoods have farms as well and Eagle River celebrates with a large Cranberry Festival the first weekend in October each year.

The History of Cranberries

Cranberries have a rich history in North America, where they’ve been cultivated for centuries. Native American tribes were the first to recognize the berry’s medicinal and nutritional properties. They used cranberries for everything from treating urinary tract infections to dyeing fabrics, and even in making pemmican—a high-energy mixture of berries, meat, and fat used by hunters and travelers. Early European settlers adopted these uses, and cranberries soon became a key part of the American diet, especially during the fall harvest.

Today, the United States and Canada are the primary producers of cranberries, with Wisconsin and Massachusetts leading the way in cultivation. The distinctive bogs where cranberries grow are flooded during harvest season, creating the picturesque “ocean” of red berries that many of us associate with cranberry farms.

Health Benefits of Cranberries

Cranberries are more than just a festive fruit—they’re packed with nutrients that can support your health in a variety of ways.

1. Rich in Antioxidants: Cranberries are a powerhouse of antioxidants, particularly vitamin C and flavonoids, which help to combat oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, contributing to overall health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

2. Urinary Tract Health: One of the most well-known health benefits of cranberries is their role in preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs). Cranberries contain compounds called proanthocyanidins that prevent harmful bacteria from adhering to the urinary tract, reducing the likelihood of infection. While they’re not a cure for UTIs, cranberries can be a helpful preventative measure.

3. Heart Health: The antioxidants in cranberries, along with their fiber and anti-inflammatory properties, can contribute to heart health by improving blood pressure, reducing cholesterol levels, and lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Some studies have shown that regular consumption of cranberries may help reduce the buildup of plaque in the arteries, which is linked to atherosclerosis.

4. Gut Health: Cranberries are rich in dietary fiber, which is essential for digestive health. Fiber promotes healthy digestion, aids in regular bowel movements, and supports a balanced gut microbiome. Additionally, the natural compounds in cranberries may help prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut, contributing to overall digestive wellness.

5. Immune Support: Cranberries are high in vitamin C, which plays a crucial role in strengthening the immune system. Vitamin C helps to fight off infections, reduce inflammation, and support healthy skin. This makes cranberries a great addition to your diet, especially during cold and flu season.

Creative Ways to Enjoy Cranberries

While cranberries are most commonly used in sauces and baked goods during the holiday season, they can be enjoyed in a variety of ways throughout the year. Here are some ideas for incorporating more cranberries into your meals:

1. Fresh Cranberry Sauce: Homemade cranberry sauce is easy to make and much fresher than the canned variety. Simply simmer fresh cranberries with sugar, orange zest, and a touch of cinnamon until the berries burst and the sauce thickens. This vibrant sauce can be served as a topping for turkey, roasted vegetables, or even yogurt.

2. Cranberry Smoothies: Add a handful of fresh or frozen cranberries to your morning smoothie for a tart, refreshing twist. Pair them with other fruits like bananas, oranges, and strawberries, and blend with yogurt or almond milk for a delicious, nutrient-packed breakfast or snack.

3. Cranberry Relish or Chutney: For a more savory take on cranberries, make a relish or chutney by combining cranberries with onions, ginger, garlic, and vinegar. This can be served alongside meats like chicken, pork, or lamb to add a sweet and tangy kick.

4. Dried Cranberries: Dried cranberries are a convenient snack that you can toss into trail mixes, salads, or oatmeal. Be mindful to choose unsweetened dried cranberries, as many commercial varieties are packed with added sugar. Alternatively, you can make your own dried cranberries at home by dehydrating fresh berries in an oven or dehydrator.

5. Cranberry Baked Goods: Cranberries add a burst of tart flavor to muffins, cakes, and cookies. For a festive touch, try adding them to classic recipes like banana bread, scones, or shortbread cookies. Their tangy bite contrasts wonderfully with the sweetness of sugar or chocolate chips.

6. Cranberry Cocktails: Cranberries are the perfect ingredient for holiday cocktails. A splash of cranberry juice can elevate a classic vodka cranberry, or you can make a cranberry mojito with fresh berries, mint, lime, and rum. For a warm winter drink, mix cranberry juice with a splash of cinnamon and serve it hot with a cinnamon stick garnish.

Where to Find Cranberries

Fresh cranberries are typically available in the fall and early winter months, so be sure to stock up during this time. You can find them in most grocery stores, often in the produce section. If fresh cranberries aren’t available, frozen cranberries are a great alternative and can be used in most recipes.

For dried cranberries, look for options with minimal added sugar or try making your own. Many health food stores also offer organic or unsweetened dried cranberries. You can even find cranberry extracts and supplements if you’re interested in their health benefits, particularly for urinary tract health.

Cranberries are more than just a holiday treat—they’re a powerhouse fruit with a host of health benefits and endless culinary possibilities. Whether you’re enjoying them fresh, dried, or juiced, cranberries bring a bright, tart flavor to your dishes while supporting your health in a variety of ways.

Plan a visit to the Northwoods of Wisconsin in the Fall around the cranberry harvest and take a tour. Stock up on fresh berries to take home to put in the freezer to pull out for recipes, to add antioxidants to your wellness routine and to add a festive touch and a little extra cheer to your decor.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

  • Our trip to Denver. I shared about my favorite spots in my Welcome Home Saturday post yesterday.
  • I spent time with a friend I hadn’t seen since before Thanksgiving! It was so fun to catch up and feel spoiled with wine and a charcuterie board in her cozy home.
  • Wednesday night Brian and I dropped into church for the youth group student led night. Our daughter was helping lead worship and our son was helping with the introduction. I love these activities that give them the opportunity to speak and perform in front of crowds and develop this skill at a young age. Treat this like its a Sunday afternoon and you are goin’ vision’.

It’s a virtual pop in to say hi at each of our homes to see our fun thrifted finds.

Now, if only you were really stopping by and I could serve you some coffee cake!

You have now been welcomed into my lakeside, log cabin home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Fall Decor, Log Cabin, Cabin Living

Typically all winter it looks a bit more like this:

Cabin in the Snow

Like a marshmallow world.

Vintage Marshmallow Tins

When I’m collecting old items for our cabin home I love seeking out items that have a nostalgic campy feel.

Items that I can picture would have been used to enjoy lake life “back in the day.”

One of those items, and what I consider a must have are marshmallow tins.

Marshmallow Tins are Perfect For A Hot Chocolate Bar

I love setting up a self serve hot chocolate bar throughout winter for everyone to enjoy as they get warm and cozy.

How to Display Vintage Collections

When I can bring many pieces of my collections together it truly makes them a work of art. They are so visually appealing, and can stack for more height.

As I decorate a mantel, I like a variety of items in different sizes, colors, textures.

Set one thing down on a clear mantel and then start styling around it.

Here you see some of my red lantern collection and some of my picnic baskets too.

Use Vintage Tins as Vases

One of my favorite ways to use vintage tins is to hold fresh blooms.

I add a mason jar of water inside to keep the tin safe.

It’s such an easy way to make a special arrangement.

For this one on the picnic table I just plopped an already potted Gerber daisy inside, 1.2.3 done.

Vintage Camp Blanket, S'mores sign, thermos and Campfire Marshmallow Tin

Here are a few more posts about using tins HERE and HERE.

Marshmallow Tins Around the Campfire

Nothing is more “campfirey” than marshmallow tins.

Try using them to hold all the fixings you need to bring from inside to outside and save a few trips and have cute accessories on hand then too.

Fill one tin with marshmallows (of course), another with chocolates and another with a variety of cookie options.

We prefer using cookies like a chocolate chip instead of crumbly graham crackers.

WEEKEND PLANS

How are you spending your Saturday?

I’m on Zoom calls for my Coe College Board of Trustee’s roll most of the day, not being able to make them in person this time.

Coe College

The rest of the house is still asleep and the sun hasn’t risen yet.

A perk of Zoom is being curled up and cozy by the fire while engaged and present virtually.

Tonight is Winter Ball so that is exciting for my high schoolers.

The fun starts early as the getting ready with their friends is just as fun as the dance itself.

Finding time to relax after working hard feels good when we’ve earned our cozy moments.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

Living in the Northwoods of Wisconsin we spend a lot of time in the cold and snow.

Our fist snowfall usually comes around Halloween.

The last of the snowflakes tend to fall in April with one last storm.

Winter in The Northwoods

All this snow can pile up into almost 100 inches of snow some years.

This year we are low on snow and that’s a big deal Up North.

So much of our economy is based on the tourism that comes to the area for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, pond hockey and other outdoor activities.

As of my writing, our snowmobile trails have not opened yet.

Along with all the snow, in winter our lakes freeze solid.

Solid enough to skate on, snowmobile across, even drive on out to your fish shanty to ice fish.

During this cold and usually snowy season we spend time out enjoying the activities of the area, but we also spend a lot of time getting cozy.

We love to slip on our slippers, curl up under throw blankets and sit by the roaring fire.

This time of hibernation, relaxation, rejuvenation and refreshing.

This time of cozy.

It is necessary.

It is healthy.

Cozy Decor for Winter

A favorite mantra I embrace is Earn Your Saturdays.

Work hard all week, give your all, do your best and then rest on the weekend.

I can say the same about being cozy, Earn Your Cozy.

We give so much to the other seasons, we can take extra time in winter to rest.

cozy cabin, Northern Lights candle, log cabin, cottage

Some of my favorite ways to cozy:

  • Read a can’t put down book.
  • Flip through a stack of my favorite magazines.
  • Watch a feel good series.
  • Make some tea and have a long chat with my mom and dad on FaceTime.
  • Enjoy a cocktail while visiting with my husband about the day.
  • Watching football with the family.
  • Sipping coffee and having my Quiet Time.
  • Journal, plan, dream and write.
  • Play a game with my kids.
slippers, hype, magazines, reading

Sometimes we need cozy moments because we are tired- physically, emotionally or spiritually.

The more we can be connected to our minds and bodies we will be able to understand our feelings and evaluate our need for rest.

We need to give ourselves the permission and grace to be still.

Adding cozy to our rest is a way to show ourselves love and to our family and friends who visit.

Cozy Warm Drinks

Keep the makings for favorite warm drinks on hand whether a self serve station or ready to make often.

A warm drink has the cozy factor to make homework seem easier, problems lift a bit, relaxation begin quicker and warmth to hit from the inside out.

Winter Decor- Hot Chocolate

Click on these images to shop tea favorites.

Cozy Baked Goods

Another way to get cozy is to spend some time baking if time in the kitchen brings you peace.

Take some time to bake through some recipes that look delicious to you to find a few or even one to be a signature treat for you to enjoy and share with others.

I have a friend that spends her winter Sundays baking a different cookie each week then packaging them up to share with coworkers.

Maybe bake a coffee cake to keep under a cake saver then invite a neighbor or friend over to enjoy a slice, offer a piece if someone stops by, or enjoy a chunk with your morning coffee lingering over each bite.

Cozy Evening by the Cabin Fire

Cozy Fragrances

Enjoy taking time to find the scent that brings calm to your world.

Maybe it’s a candle, an essential oil diffuser or a simmer pot on the stove.

Certain fragrances can instantly relax me.

There are some fragrances in my shower products and bath items that are so soothing.

I have loved building a routine with fragrances.

  • When I am home I light a candle on my kitchen counter.
  • Each morning after my workout I shower with THIS BODY WASH just before I turn my shower to cold for two minutes.
  • I keep THIS LOTION in my purse, in my car, in my desk and beside my bed.
  • In my diffuser I have essential oils.
Cozy decor for Winter

Cozy Decor

I like to decorate the after Christmas season with simple decor that reflects the view outside my window.

Ceramic trees like these give a nod to the snow flocked trees in our yard and woods.

You can see more of my winter decor in THIS POST.

There are lots of places to find inspiration for how to cozy.

Make Yourself Cozy

Get Make Yourself Cozy by Katie Vaz HERE.

It’s also good to remember that earning and needing cozy might not only happen in winter.

We may need a season of rest at any time during the year after a hard experience, exhausting work load or emotional moments.

Sometimes I need moments of cozy even during the course of a week.

I may get home after a frustrating day and need to just be.

Just be quiet.

Just be comforted.

Just be cozy.

And it rejuvenates me to go back with full positive energy the next day.

Buffalo Plaid, Hudson Bay Blanket, Pendleton, Baileys, Roaring Fire, Fireplace, Cozy

Embracing cozy moments is the opposite of laziness.

It is intentional and a decision.

We prep for these moments by putting routines into place that support our restoring moments.

We keep cozy essentials on hand, blankets over chairs, lamp light in the evenings.

We invest in some items that don’t break the bank, but feel good.

Classy lounge wear, fluffy slippers, a soft robe.

Earn Your Cozy

So as we work hard be sure to make time, schedule time to slow down and get cozy, you’ve earned it!

THRIFTING WITH THE GALS

It’s such fun to share thrifting adventures over on Instagram Stories and here on my blog as I shop my local antique shops in Minocqua, Wisconsin and on my travels.

I join my Thrifting With The Gals friends too as they share from where they live in Vermont and Maine, North Carolina, and Florida.

Search our hashtag #thriftingwiththegals to follow along.

I love passing on the storied adventures to you as each gal shares.

My Thrifting With the Gals cohosts come together each month for a blog hop to share how we are decorating with our treasures in our own homes.

There’s so much inspiration each time and some amazing upcycling and craft projects too.

Thanks so much to Ann Dabbling & Decorating for getting this fun group started years ago.

WELCOME TO CAMP PARADISE

Welcome to our Wisconsin lakeside log cabin home where I love decorating all year round with my thrifted finds.

My decor is a mix of new classic pieces, family heirlooms and gathered finds thrifted, old and nostalgic brought together to tell the story of a home.

Our cabin home is full of memories and items that speak to my heart.

At my shop one of our phrases is “We make room for the things and people we love.”

White Arrows Home the Shop

And that is so true in our cabin.

There are pieces that I have come across since we bought our cabin that are special, unique and perfect for our rustic home of logs.

When I am out shopping in antique shops I sometimes have a wish list, but more often I am walking around and seeing what calls out to me.

antique shopping, lands end tote, minocqua, lakeland area antique shops, norhwoods

On one such adventure I found this little cabin music box.

I’m not sure what the song is that plays, but I thought it was the sweetest piece with its little green shutters.

It’s been a fun piece to style in vignettes seasonally and year round.

Wooden Cabin Music Box Christmas Decor

Every cabin needs a collection of Log Cabin syrup containers.

Having a collection makes shopping antique stores even more fun.

Many of my collections like my milk glass, my thermos and these old syrup holders make for interesting hunts because there are such a variety of pieces to come across and they are affordable.

Here’s a post I shared about inexpensive collections to start.

Vintage Log Cabin Syrup

Pancakes are one of our favorite breakfasts around here, especially on weekends.

Here’s a favorite pancake recipe loved by all our family.

This cute little bank I found one day and knew I wanted to bring it home to sit on a stack of book.

And speaking of books, I always have my eye out for old books with cabin titles.

I also look for lake, forest and woodland titles too.

Vintage Books

There are lots of items that are perfect for the cabin that aren’t tilted or shaped like one too.

Having a wooden nut bowl like this with a cracker and pics in it is a must.

So is a cribbage board.

Vintage Nutcracker Bowl

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Next up you are headed over to my friend Robyn’s at Robyn’s French Nest to get inspiration for styling open shelves. Her kitchen is so beautiful!

WEEKEND PLANS

How are you spending your Saturday?

We finally got a dump of snow, a couple of inches and enough to wake up to a fairy land and the plow coming to clear the driveway.

What a perfect morning to get to wake up slowly, climbing out of my flannel sheets to make pancakes for the kids.

Now I’m sitting around enjoying the view of the snow flocked trees out of our towering great room windows sitting by the fire writing.

My daughter is sitting across from me doing the same.

Honey, our Great Pyrenees is at my feet looking like a sherpa rug.

My mug is steaming and full of my favorite coffee, custom labeled and sold in my shop, roasted right here in Wisconsin at True Coffee in Madison.

Weekly roundup of favorite things from White Arrows Home

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

  • Getting to Montana and my parents’ house where I fully relax and enjoy time with family. My sister and her daughters are here and my nephew flew in last night. The cousins have all grown up spending Christmas together here at Happy Trails on the slopes. Missing that two of mine aren’t here this year and realizing that I am in a new chapter of life where we may not always be together each holiday as they grow up.
  • Time downtown with Brian, my sister and one of my nieces shopping, stopping for drinks and queso and lots of laughing. The snow is not good this year, there is barely any, such a weird experience. My kids have gone out a little bit each day to do the few runs that are open, but it gives us a lot of extra time. But some of us aren’t going out in these conditions so we headed downtown. (Are you a Seinfeld fan? If you are you will get this. I can’t write or say Downtown without quoting that one episode!)
  • Watching old movies. I shared in last week’s posts about how every year in Montana we have had a family video made of the time together and it is so much fun to go back and watch them ALL! It takes us several nights. We also have family favorite movies we love to watch like Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

WHAT I’M READING

I always love to keep a personal development book going.

A friend recommended The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy to me and I’m really getting a lot out of it.

I usually read about a chapter a day so I’ll finish this read in about seven or eight days.

WHAT I’M WATCHING

Brian and I have been back into watching The Crown.

We usually watch an episode of a series or part of a movie each night before bed.

Are you a fellow Crown fan? I find it fascinating!

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

I’m listening to the wood pop and crackle in the fireplace beside me.

I’m listening to my mom set out all the decoration options for the kids gingerbread houses. (Understand, “the kids” are all 15-23 years old, but they still LOVE traditions!)

My dad is working on the counter nearby and has The Nutcracker music playing and humming along.

These are the moments, some of my sounds of Christmas. What are yours?

Have you ever heard this song about The Nutcracker by Straight No Chaser?

Straight No Chaser is one of our favorites at Christmas!

ENCOURAGEMENT

Passing on a quote I heard this week and didn’t want to forget.
