I love every season in The Northwoods of Wisconsin where we live. Fall is a glorious time when our woods come into their full glory bursting with reds, yellows and oranges. Decorating inspired by the nature surrounding our home is so fun this time of year.
Earlier this week I shared our Fall Porch.
I shared our desk spaces around the house decorated with Fall touches.
Today I’m sharing ideas for decorating a Fall mantel three ways.
3 Fall Mantel Decor Ideas
This year I simplified my mantel. I actually only added two things to make take it from Summer to Fall. I left up the green oars, some books and Wisconsin Resorts art. Then, I just added my two bunches of wheat. Easy peasy and I love the look.
Even though the ski and surf boats come out at the end of Summer, paddling activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding can last into the Fall and are a fun way to look at the colors. So leaving up the oars and artwork still works.
Here’s what the mantel looked like this Summer.
Our mantels are one of my favorite things to decorate, the one in the great room especially. I always change it up for the seasons.
There are a few things I always think of adding when I’m decorating our mantel.
- Something with a bigger scale to make a statement
- Something tall to bring your eyes up and fill the tall stone space
- Something vintage
- Something that nods to our Northwoods location
- Something that ties the outdoors to the indoors
Last year I found the wheat bunches at Walmart and knew they’d be great to use in a vignette, on the dining room table or on the mantel.
I added a few of the vintage magazine framed art that we carry in my shop, White Arrows Home. You can visit my shop in person at our brick and mortar location in Minocqua, Wisconsin. We are open Monday-Saturday. Or you can shop anytime, from anywhere online.
To balance out the art, I took a basic canvas I picked up at Walmart and covered in a plaid fabric of greens and browns taping it in place on the back. I put the plaid canvas behind and then did the magazine art in three different sizes showing Fall outdoor wildlife scenes.
When we first moved into the house the kids would laugh at the mantel, they called it “the breadstick.”
This third way I’ve decorated the mantel from two years ago may be my favorite! The vintage reproduction paint by numbers were the springboard for the rest of the design.
I pulled in a few antique paddles and some of my vintage ducks and plaid thermos. My metal cattails were the perfect addition on the ends.
Be sure to go back and check out all the posts shared today starting with White Lilac Farmhouse and then you can “hop” over to each of the other tours. It’s like a progressive dinner but with virtual tours. I loved the beautiful decorating ideas Tammy shared. They were so beautiful and cozy!
