Because the cabin isn’t just for summer — it’s magical when the snow falls too.

When winter settles over the Northwoods, the pace of life slows down. The lake freezes, the snow piles high, and the fireplace becomes the heart of the home. While summer may get most of the attention, winter cabin time has its own kind of quiet magic — one that invites us to rest, reconnect, and truly savor the season.

I am so excited to be hosting Northwoods Living with Kristin on Up North at 4 with Agnes, Dan & Geoff on WJFW Channel 12.

Every other Thursday I host a segment during Up North @ 4 where I give ideas and encouragement for decorating, entertaining, and gifting — all with a cozy Northwoods feel.

I recently shared 10 cozy ways to enjoy cabin time in the winter whether you live Up North full-time, sneak away on weekends, or simply dream of snowy getaways.

Watch the original episode at the bottom of this post.

Bundle Up and Take a Snowy Walk

There’s nothing quite like the crunch of snow under your boots and the stillness of the forest in winter. Put on your coziest layers, grab a thermos of something warm, and go for a short walk. Even ten minutes of fresh air can shift your whole mood and make you feel alive.

Kristin Lenz in snow

Light the Fire and Stay Awhile

At the cabin, the fire isn’t just for heat — it’s a gathering place. Stoke the wood stove or light the fireplace and settle in. Whether you’re reading, journaling, or catching up with family, the soft crackle of the fire adds comfort and connection.

minocqua-buffalo-plaid-cozy-cabin

Style a Winter Blanket Basket

Keep warm blankets within reach by placing them in a vintage crate basket by the door or fireplace. Include flannel throws, wool camp blankets, and maybe even a few cozy socks for guests. The goal? Make everyone feel welcome and warm.

vintage wool plaid camp blankets

Start a Seasonal Reading Stack

There’s something so comforting about getting lost in a good book on a snowy afternoon. Stack a few books near your favorite chair — wintery mysteries, local history, field guides, or even old family photo albums. I love styling mine in a basket or tray.

Vintage Books, Hardback Books, Outdoor Titles, Cabin Decor, Log Home, Vintage Decor

Create a Cozy Drink Station

Set up a self-serve coffee, cocoa, or tea bar with everything you need for warm beverages all day long. Include camp mugs, marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and even a plaid thermos for taking drinks out to the firepit or porch swing.

camp stool, camp blanket, plaid blanket, hot chocolate, hot chocolate bar, cabin, rustic, cabin style, rustic decor, cabin decor

Add Glow with Lamp Light, Candles & Lantern

In winter, the glow of lamplight and candlelight makes everything feel magical. Cluster candles in vintage jars, light an old oil lamp, or use battery-powered lanterns for soft, flickering glow in the early evenings. It’s like instant hygge — Northwoods-style.

Cabin Lamp Light

Play Board Games or Do a Puzzle

Unplug and reconnect with an old-fashioned game night. Bring out the Scrabble board, a deck of cards, or start a puzzle on the dining table. It’s a tradition that slows you down and brings everyone together — no screens needed.

Family games, snow day, Monopoly

Watch the Snowfall with Intention

Place a chair by the window and just sit for a moment. Add a blanket, a mug, maybe a journal, and simply watch the snow fall. Winter invites us to pause — to be still and notice the beauty around us.

Capture the Quiet Beauty

Winter is full of understated beauty: frosted pine branches, frozen lakes, deer tracks in the snow. Keep your camera (or phone) handy and document these peaceful scenes. They make great memories and even better artwork or Christmas cards later on!

Cook Something Comforting

From cinnamon rolls to cast iron chili, winter is for comfort food. Let your cabin smell like butter and cinnamon. Fill the fridge with leftovers and invite everyone to gather around the table — or eat breakfast by the fire in your slippers.

The Snowy Cabin Cookbook

Embrace the Stillness

Winter at the cabin is about simplicity. It’s about long mornings, early nights, and savoring the stillness. It’s less hustle, more heart. And the best part? You don’t need much. A fire, a few blankets, and the people you love are more than enough.

Stone Fireplace

It’s the beginning of the year and everyone is setting new reading goals.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

What was the best book you read in 2025? My favorite was My Name is Resolute by Nancy E. Turner who also wrote a book I loved years ago recommended by my grandmother, called These is My Words about a woman in the Arizona Territory in the late 1800s.

My Name Is Resolute is a sweeping historical novel that follows the life of Resolute Talbot, a young English girl kidnapped by pirates in the early 1700s and sold into slavery in colonial America. Through captivity, hardship, and personal loss, Resolute grows into a fiercely determined woman, navigating the challenges of survival, family, and freedom in a new land on the brink of revolution. Richly detailed and emotionally resonant, the story explores themes of resilience, identity, and the power of the human spirit to endure and adapt across decades. I couldn’t put it down!

Reading Challenges

There are so many fun reading challenges to kick off a new year. Ways to get motivated and excited to get through your book stack of TBR (To Be Read) books abound. There are all kinds of ways to chart, graph, color and journal your reads as you go.

You can find some ideas in THIS POST.

Try one of the ideas and share with me what you plan to do. Whether you decide to follow along with one of these or already have a motivating and creative idea. I would love to hear in the comments.

HOW TO MAKE TIME TO READ

Do you struggle finding time to fit in reading? Here’s the strategy I created years ago that helps me fit in more books.

How to Fit in Reading

What I’m Reading

Here’s what I’ll be reading this month.

Want to get daily encouragement? SUBSCRIBE HERE so you don’t miss any posts!

Quiet Time Book

This month I’m reading The Nature of Rest by Eryn Lynum.

Eryn gently invites readers to rediscover Sabbath as more than just a day, but a divine rhythm woven into creation itself. Through Scripture, nature’s patterns, and soul-deep reflections, she shows how real rest isn’t about escaping our lives, but entering into them more fully, the way God intended. With six weeks of devotional insight and journaling prompts, this book helps move from burnout to balance, reminding us that rest is not a reward we earn — it’s a gift we’re given.

Read The Nature of Rest with me!

Wait Time Book

This month I’m reading Age Like A Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz. A few years ago I read her bestseller, Fast Like a Girl ,and learned a lot. So now that I’ve entered my 50s the timing is great for her to release her new book.

This isn’t just another cookbook — it’s a food‑and‑body manifesto built to help women eat with intention, support their hormones, and honor the natural rhythms of their metabolism. Dr. Mindy Pelz shows how what you eat — not just when you eat — can influence energy, blood sugar stability, gut health, and hormone balance. With over 100 delicious recipes for both plant‑based and omnivore eaters, practical guidance on blood sugar and hormonal “windows,” and a philosophy that treats food as medicine rather than deprivation, this book empowers women to reconnect with their bodies and eat in a way that feels good and works for their unique biology.

Read Age Like A Girl with me!

For the Love of Reading

I’ve decided to read (or reread) the Classics. I’ve made a list of American Literature, British Literature, and German Literature (my son in law is German) to start reading through. I’m starting with a popular one from my British Lit List, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Read Pride and Prejudice with me.

Join my Fireside Book Club over on Facebook. Request to join HERE.

Chore Time Book

This month I’m listening to Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. My mom was reading it during Christmas and really enjoyed it.

The transformative power of curiosity, kindness, and connection fill this book. When an older man named Theo arrives one spring in the small southern city of Golden, he’s drawn to a coffee shop wall filled with 92 pencil portraits of locals — and decides to buy and return each one to its “rightful owner,” one by one. What begins as a mysterious mission of creative generosity soon ripples through the town, forging friendships, illuminating hidden stories, and gently changing lives. At its heart, the book is a celebration of seeing and being seen, the wonder of human connection, and the quiet ways small acts of kindness can bind a community together.

TIP: As you get used to listening to audiobooks you can speed up the sound by touching the 1X in the bottom left corner of your device. I usually listen at 1 1/2 and am able to get through books much quicker and make time for more!

Read or Listen to Theo of Golden with me!

More to Read This Month

As I fit in more books this month, here’s what’s on the list:

  • For my local book club we are reading Land of Dreams by Lauraine Snelling.
  • My Women’s Bible Study at Church is starting Ann Graham Lotz’s The Daniel Prayer.

Looking to refresh your reading life with a fun and meaningful twist? This post shares 15 unique reading challenge ideas to turn your bookshelf into an unforgettable journey.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

There’s something magical about turning the act of reading into a bit of an adventure — not just checking titles off a list, but letting the books you choose shape your year. Whether you’re a devoted reader or picking up your first novel in a while, these creative reading challenges will add fresh joy, structure, and inspiration to your reading life.

Kristin Lenz Reading

And the best part? You can tailor them to your style, your shelves, and your pace.

Here are 15 inspiring reading challenge ideas — from personal prompts to playful bingo boards — that turn reading into something you’ll want to keep returning to, all year long.

12 Recommendations

One of my online friends Kerstin gave me this idea. Ask twelve friends a book they recommend and then use that to guide your reading.

Read Your Height

Stack your books until they match your height! Whether that’s 5’4” or 6 feet tall, it’s a fun visual challenge — and a great excuse to gather those unread books in a single (tottering) pile.

You could also read the amount of books that match your height in inches. So if you are 64″ tall you would read 64 books.

12 Books from 12 Countries

Travel the globe through the pages. Choose books written by authors from 12 different countries — bonus points if they’re translated works. It’s a beautiful way to experience other cultures from your armchair.

12 Different Time Periods

Step into another era with each book: Ancient history, the Middle Ages, the 1800s, the 1950s… all the way to futuristic dystopias. This is a history-lover’s dream challenge.

Book Bingo

Create a bingo board with prompts like:

  • “A book under 200 pages”
  • “A memoir”
  • “Set in the Northwoods”
  • “A book with a blue cover”
  • “Borrowed from a friend”

Each square you fill makes you a more adventurous reader!

Print a copy HERE.

From the TBR Stack Only

TBR = “To Be Read.” Challenge yourself to read only books you already own or have stacked by the nightstand. It’s satisfying and helps you shop your own shelves.

Books from the Year You Were Born

Look up what was published the year you were born and pick a few! You’ll likely be surprised by the variety — and it’s a fun way to celebrate your birth year.

Read by a Theme

Choose a unifying theme for your challenge, like:

  • Nature and the Outdoors
  • Friendship
  • Faith and Flourishing
  • Food Memoirs
  • Cabin Life

Then let that theme guide your reading list all year.

12 ReReads

There’s deep comfort in revisiting beloved books. Pick 12 favorites you haven’t read in years and see what new layers you notice this time around.

From One Author

Choose a single author and dive into as much of their work as possible — their novels, essays, maybe even a biography about them. You’ll see their style evolve and appreciate their voice more deeply.

One Genre: Memoirs, Mysteries, or

Stick with one genre for a stretch — like memoirs, historical fiction, cozy mysteries, or travel writing — and see how much variety still lives inside that one category.

Want to get daily encouragement? SUBSCRIBE HERE so you don’t miss any posts!

Read with the Seasons

Match your books to the mood of each season:

  • Winter: Cozy classics and reflective reads
  • Spring: Fresh starts, new growth, nature writing
  • Summer: Beach reads and adventurous escapes
  • Fall: Moody mysteries, family sagas, back-to-school themes

Let your reading life flow with the rhythms around you.

One Shelf

Choose just one shelf on your bookcase and read what’s there. It’s a fun constraint that keeps decision-making simple and often leads to forgotten treasures.

Count Minutes, Not Books

If page counts stress you out, try tracking time instead. Challenge yourself to 1,000 minutes in a month, or 20 minutes a day. It’s gentle, consistent, and still deeply rewarding.

Read Through a Place

Build a reading list around a setting that captivates you. Here are a few ideas:

  • The Northwoods (yes please!)
  • Small English villages
  • Coastal towns
  • Cabin life in the mountains
  • France, Scotland, or the Deep South

Reading becomes travel, and you never even have to pack a bag.

Final Thought

Reading doesn’t need to be a race, it can be a rhythm, a ritual, a way of filling your days with beauty and new ideas. Whether you choose one challenge or combine a few, make it your own. Make it fun. And make it meaningful.

If you’d like to follow along with my reading challenges, I’d love to share what I’m reading this season, and hear your picks too. Let’s fill this year with great books and even better conversations.

Do you collect books? They are a beautiful decor element to give your home it’s own story. Try the art of bookscaping.

I have been enjoying sharing encouragement and inspiration for your home decor, gifting and entertaining on Up North @ 4 with Agnes, Dan & Geoff on WJFW Channel 12.

My segments, Northwoods Living with Kristin air every other Thursday.

Recently I shared about bookscaping. You can watch the episode through the link at the bottom of this post.

Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and all the nooks. ~ Dr. Seuss

I’m a book store girl. I love the library, but my happy place is the book store. I love adding the books as I finish to my bookshelf. Seeing all the books I’ve read on the shelves is like seeing souvenirs of my adventures.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

I also love collecting antique and vintage books I’m drawn to for their color, title, cover or spine.

I saw an ad somewhere the other day that said something about The Art of Bookscaping and I felt a little stirring in my heart. That’s exactly how I feel about how I style books throughout our home, it’s an art.

Here are some of the ways I decorate with books around our cabin.

A room without books is like a body without a soul. ~ Cicero

Books in Bookends

I always have my eyes out at thrift shops and antique stores for great bookends. I loved this mallard pair. They are perfect holding together a few of my favorite outdoor titled old books.

Mallard Duck Book Ends

On the trunk at the end of my son’s room an antique creel, a stack of books and some old fishing gear tells the story of my son’s love of fishing and adventure.

Books in a Bedroom

Vintage Books

Books on the Coffee Table

The coffee table is the perfect spot to display favorite books. Coffee table books are something I love to collect too. Some of my favorites stay out all the time and others switch out for the seasons.

Sometimes my table is just stacks of books, other times I style them around the other decor like I did one Spring with my McCoy pot, dough bowl of birch and some stone birds.

Spring Decor birds and pottery

Styling books in a bookcase can be intentional showcasing books that compliment your decor.

Books On the Bookshelf

Cabin Great Room with bookshelf

It can be beautiful to stack a few books or put them in between book ends on a bookcase giving room. I love the framed feather print behind too. With the height of the shelf it needs the height of the picture.

Fall Decor Feathers

These books were a favorite find and I love giving them some special attention in their own stack holding up a cute bronze fox.

We have fox that live on our road and I love when we get a glimpse of them!

Fox Statue on Vintage Book Stack

Books on Display

One of my favorite DIYs was simply making my own cloches. You can see the full details IN THIS POST.

I collect old plaid books and this was a fun way to give them a prominent display on the desk in the living room.

DIY Cloche Glass Dome Decor Craft Project books

A stack of books also draws the eye to the beauty of a plant or something else you want to put on display. This is another one of my DIY cloches.

Books on the Mantel

I love mixing books in on my mantel when I change it for the seasons, leaning them or stacking them. I pull together from my antique collection by colors or titles to fit the theme.

Books on Display in Craft Projects

There are so many ways to put books to use in DIY craft projects. I wrapped some books in pages torn from an old hymnal. Stacked in threes and tied with a bow they were a beautiful addition to this Spring vignette.

Book Page Book Cover

I have even used stacks of books under a vintage plate as a cake stand.

Vintage Book Stack Cake Stand

Stacks of coffee table books make a great end table too. You can adjust the height as you need to. Adding a tray on top would give you a spot to set a drink.

See ways I love to use vintage finds as end tables in THIS POST.

Pendleton Hudson Bay Blanket

Books in the Kitchen

Include cookbooks in your decor in the kitchen. There are lots of fun ways to display them. Use a vintage soda crate to keep them contained. Add a stack on top of a cake stand.

As the winter chill continues, I love to hibernate inside with a cozy blanket, a hot drink, and a good book.

But winter also offers amazing opportunities to experience adventures outdoors in a way that’s impossible during the warmer months.

The crisp air, snow-covered landscapes, and quieter surroundings create an atmosphere of peace and serenity that’s perfect for getting outside. The best part? You don’t have to spend a dime to enjoy it!

Here are seven fantastic (and free) ways to embrace the winter season and enjoy the fresh air:

1. Go for a Winter Hike

When the snow falls, favorite hiking trails transform into a magical winter wonderland. Put on some sturdy shoes or boots and head out for a hike. The crisp winter air is invigorating, and the scenery is breathtaking. Whether it’s a peaceful walk through the forest or a hike up a snow-dusted hill, there’s something incredibly refreshing about moving your body while taking in the winter sights.

Bernese Mountain Dog and Great Pyrenees

2. Explore a Local Park

Winter parks are often less crowded than during the summer months, giving you a quiet and peaceful environment to enjoy nature. You can take a brisk walk, bring a thermos of tea and enjoy the scenery, or even just sit on a bench and appreciate the stillness around you. Many parks also offer free sledding hills, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous!

3. Go Snowshoeing, Cross-Country Skiing or Skating

If you live in an area with snow, like I do, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are both great ways to explore your local trails. If you don’t own equipment, many places offer rentals, but there are also free areas where you can simply grab a pair of snowshoes or skis and venture into the snow-covered wilderness. The feeling of gliding through the snow is both peaceful and exhilarating.

In Boulder Junction, here in The Northwoods, they just added a skating ribbon, an ice trail through the woods to ice skate on.

4. Winter Wildlife Watching

Winter is an excellent time to watch wildlife as animals often forage for food during the colder months. Grab your binoculars (or just your eyes) and visit a nearby wildlife preserve or even a local park. Keep an eye out for birds, squirrels, deer, and even winter wildlife like foxes or snowshoe hares. The quiet of winter makes it easier to spot animals as they move about their natural habitats.

We love walking through the woods or taking our snowmobile around our property and look for tracks guessing which animals made them. It’s amazing to see how active the wildlife is even in the cold.

5. Take a Photography Walk

Winter offers a unique landscape that’s perfect for photography. Whether it’s the subtle hues of a snowy forest, the stark contrast of bare trees against a bright blue sky, or icicles hanging from branches, winter is full of photo-worthy moments.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer to capture the beauty around you—just take a walk with your phone or camera and see what catches your eye.

6. Stargazing on a Clear Night

Clear winter nights are perfect for stargazing. The cold air typically brings clearer skies, and with fewer clouds, the stars are brighter and more visible.

You don’t need a telescope to enjoy the night sky—just lie back on a blanket, grab a warm jacket, and watch the constellations twinkle overhead.

You can even use a stargazing app on your phone to identify constellations and planets.

7. Take a Winter Bike Ride

Biking isn’t just a warm-weather activity. If you have a mountain bike or one with wide tires, you can enjoy a winter ride, even on snow-covered paths or trails.

The fresh air, crunch of snow beneath your tires, and the peacefulness of the winter landscape will make for a memorable ride. Just be sure to bundle up and take safety precautions when riding on slippery surfaces.

The Winter also opportunities to improve our physical and mental health. Embracing the outdoors in winter doesn’t just lift spirits—it can also have a lasting positive impact on our well-being. So, whether taking a brisk walk or skiing through snow-covered trails, here’s why getting outside in winter is a must:

1. Boosts Your Immune System

Exposing your body to cold weather in moderation can actually help strengthen your immune system. Studies have shown that being outside in cooler temperatures can increase the production of white blood cells, which help your body fight off illnesses.

Regular outdoor activity in winter, even something as simple as walking, can lower your chances of getting sick by improving overall immune function.

2. Increases Vitamin D Levels

During the winter months, many people struggle with a lack of sunlight, which can lead to lower levels of vitamin D—a vital nutrient for bone health, immune support, and mood regulation.

By spending time outside in the natural light, even on cloudy days, your body can absorb more vitamin D. This can help you maintain healthy bones, regulate your mood, and keep your energy levels up, even when the days are shorter.

3. Improves Mental Health

Being outside in winter offers numerous mental health benefits. Exposure to natural light helps to regulate your circadian rhythm, which is essential for maintaining good sleep patterns.

In addition, outdoor exercise releases endorphins, the “feel-good” chemicals that reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The fresh air and peaceful surroundings can provide a much-needed mental break from daily stressors, helping to clear your mind and improve your mood.

When the sun is out I even move my workouts outside.

4. Enhances Cardiovascular Health

Cold-weather activities like hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, or even walking through the neighborhood all help to get your heart pumping. Exercising in winter challenges your body in a different way than warmer-weather activities.

The cold temperature forces your body to work harder to regulate its internal temperature, giving your cardiovascular system a boost. Regular outdoor exercise during winter can improve your heart health, increase circulation, and improve overall fitness.

5. Promotes Better Sleep

Getting outside in the winter can help you sleep better at night. Natural light exposure, even in smaller doses, helps to reset your internal clock. This can lead to deeper, more restful sleep. Plus, outdoor activities tire your muscles and relax your body, which can make falling asleep easier and more peaceful.

Cabin Bedroom Decor

6. Strengthens Your Lungs

Winter air is crisp and often dry, which can be a little harder to breathe for some. However, outdoor exercise in winter can actually help to strengthen your lungs.

Cold, dry air can stimulate deeper breathing, helping to increase lung capacity over time. For those with respiratory conditions like asthma, fresh outdoor air can help reduce inflammation and clear up congestion, as long as it’s not too cold or harsh.

7. Boosts Your Energy Levels

Spending time outside in winter can give you a natural energy boost. The cold air helps to stimulate circulation, making you feel more awake and alert. Plus, engaging in outdoor activities like walking or skiing releases endorphins, which can improve your mood and provide an overall sense of well-being. The increased blood flow can also help shake off feelings of fatigue, leaving you feeling refreshed and energized.

8. Improves Balance and Coordination

Winter activities often involve navigating slippery or uneven terrain, which can help improve your balance and coordination. Walking on snow-covered paths, hiking up icy hills, or participating in winter sports all require a certain level of agility and control. Over time, this can strengthen the muscles responsible for balance, improving overall stability and reducing the risk of falls and injuries.

9. Encourages Social Interaction

In the winter months, many people tend to huddle inside, but winter offers a unique chance to connect with others outside. Whether it’s walking with a friend, joining a local snowshoeing group, or simply enjoying a public event in your area, being outdoors can foster social connections.

Social interaction is essential for mental health, and spending time with others while being active outdoors can help strengthen relationships and increase feelings of happiness and belonging.

A favorite account to follow and encourage time outdoors is 1000 Hours Outside.

10. Increases Mindfulness and Presence

Winter provides a unique setting for mindfulness. The quiet, stillness of snowy landscapes or the beauty of winter sunsets can help you focus on the present moment. Whether you’re out for a walk or simply sitting outside, being surrounded by nature encourages a sense of peace and mindfulness that’s hard to achieve indoors. This practice of being present can reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and improve emotional well-being.

Winter doesn’t have to be a time for hibernation. In fact, it can be an excellent season to improve your health, boost your mood, and enhance your physical fitness.

By embracing the cold and stepping outside, you can enjoy the fresh winter air while reaping the many physical and mental health benefits that nature provides. So, bundle up, get outside, and take full advantage of what winter has to offer!

Though today we are such digitally connected world, maintaining close, meaningful and truly intimate relationships with friends and family who live far away can sometimes feel like a challenge. But we can use technology to our advantage. One of the simplest—and most enjoyable—ways to nurture those connections is by hosting virtual tea time over FaceTime, Zoom or other app. Keeping connecting over a drink face to face a comforting and timeless tradition.

Coffee at the cabin in vintage tea cup

A shared cup of tea, even from a distance, can provide a sense of intimacy, calm, and togetherness, helping to bridge the physical gap between loved ones. Whether you’re across the globe or just a few states apart, these creative ideas will make your virtual tea time something special and memorable.

Here are some creative ideas for hosting a virtual tea time that will make you feel closer to your loved ones, no matter where they are.

Choose a Theme

One of the joys of tea time is the opportunity to make it feel special. Adding a theme to your virtual tea gathering can bring an extra layer of fun and creativity. For instance, you could opt for:

  • Choosing a theme based on a particular country or culture. For example, a British afternoon tea with scones and finger sandwiches, a Japanese tea ceremony with matcha, or a Moroccan tea time with mint tea and pastries.
  • Celebrate the season with flavors that match the time of year—think spiced chai or apple cinnamon for fall, floral teas like jasmine or lavender for spring, or peppermint and citrus blends for winter.
  • Choose a book to read together and discuss it over your tea. You could pick a novel, a devotional, or even a collection of poetry. The discussions can add depth to your gathering, making it more meaningful.

During quarantine a few years ago I was doing many of these ideas with friends. Many from right in my hometown who I wasn’t able to meet with regularly, at that time, and others like high school friends I hadn’t talked to in years. It became a new way to connect I wanted to continue.

Send a Tea Package in Advance

One of the best ways to make your virtual tea time feel connected is by sending your friend or family member a small tea package before your meeting. Whether it’s a curated selection of loose leaf teas, a set of teabags, or an assortment of fun tea accessories like a new mug or a tea infuser, the thoughtful gesture will elevate the experience.

You could also send small treats or baked goods like homemade scones, cookies, or biscuits to accompany the tea. The act of receiving a physical package before your virtual meeting will create anticipation and excitement, making the event feel more tangible.

At my shop, White Arrows Home, in Minocqua, Wisconsin we have an area known as The Dish Bar where you can select a vintage tea cup and saucer and then have it mailed to a friend with a note to join you for tea.

Vintage Dishes to Mix and Match

Incorporate Fun and Interactive Activities

Make your virtual tea time even more memorable by including an activity that everyone can enjoy together. Here are some ideas:

Show and Tell: Have everyone share something meaningful, like a book they’re reading, a family heirloom, or a favorite memory related to tea. It’s a great way to learn more about each other’s lives and deepen your connections.

Crafting or DIY: For a creative twist, consider adding a craft element while chatting.

Focus on Deep Conversations and Catching Up

One of the most beautiful aspects of a virtual tea time is the ability to sit back, relax, and focus on meaningful conversations. Set aside the distractions of life and focus on reconnecting. Let your tea time be an opportunity to:

  • Share your life updates: Talk about what’s been going on in your life, from the small day-to-day moments to the big events. Don’t rush; take your time to enjoy the conversation and really listen to one another.
  • Discuss personal growth or challenges: Tea time can be an excellent opportunity to discuss personal goals, spiritual journeys, or any struggles you may be going through. It can feel like a safe space to open up and share vulnerable moments, offering support and encouragement.
  • Reflect on past memories: Take a trip down memory lane by reminiscing about moments you’ve shared in person—whether it’s family holidays, trips, or even small, everyday moments that meant a lot.
  • Gratitude Sharing: Start the tea time by sharing one thing you are grateful for that week. It could be something small like a relaxing moment or something bigger, like a personal achievement. It’s a great way to set a positive tone for the conversation.
  • Themed Conversation Starters: Prepare a list of conversation prompts or questions to inspire meaningful discussion. Topics could include childhood memories, dreams and goals, favorite books or movies, or reflections on faith or spirituality. Keep the atmosphere light and supportive, and encourage everyone to share openly.
  • Prayer or Blessing Time: Consider closing the gathering with a time of prayer or a blessing. It’s a beautiful way to end the call, offering each other support, encouragement, and lifting up any needs or concerns.

Virtual tea times can be a great way to connect grandparents with their grandkids. Set a weekly date or make it at random times to celebrate special moments.

Virtual tea time is a beautiful way to stay connected with friends and family, even when distance separates you. By infusing your gatherings with thoughtful themes, shared activities, and meaningful conversation, you can transform a simple video chat into a delightful, memorable experience.

Whether it’s catching up on life, sharing a cup of tea, or engaging in lighthearted fun, virtual tea time allows us to nourish our relationships and create new memories, even from miles apart. So, brew your favorite tea, put on your coziest outfit, and start planning your next virtual tea time—it’s the perfect way to reconnect and refresh your spirit, no matter where you are.

And if tea isn’t your favorite, enjoy coffee, hot chocolate or even a glass of wine.

Winter brings its own unique charm—crisp air, snowy landscapes, and cozy moments spent indoors.

But it also offers a perfect opportunity to step outside your usual routine and try something new.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

Whether you’re looking for a fun family activity, a way to spark your creativity, or just want to shake up your winter season, here are 10 creative ideas to make the most of the colder months that are both fun and cozy.

1. Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is a time-honored winter tradition that’s perfect for anyone looking to embrace the chilly season with a little movement.

Whether you choose to glide across an outdoor rink beneath twinkling holiday lights or warm up indoors at a local arena, ice skating offers a unique blend of fun and fitness.

It’s a great way to work out without feeling like you’re exercising—burning calories, strengthening muscles, and improving balance all while enjoying the winter air (or cozy indoor warmth).

backyard hockey, ice skating, northwoods living

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a complete beginner, it’s an activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels.

Plus, many rinks offer rentals, so you don’t even need to own skates to join in the fun.

So, grab your friends, your family and hit the ice for a memorable winter outing!

2. Build a Snowman (or Snow Sculptures)

When snowflakes start falling, there’s no better way to embrace the season than by heading outside to build a snowman or get creative with snow sculptures.

Gather your family, friends, or even neighbors for an impromptu snowman-building contest, or challenge each other to create imaginative designs like snow animals, castles, or abstract art.

You can find some fun ideas on my Winter Pinterest Board.

Build a Snowman

Building a snowman is more than just rolling snow into big balls—it’s a chance to let your imagination run wild, experimenting with different snow textures, props for eyes, noses, and scarves, and even adding personality to your frosty creations.

If you’re in a place that doesn’t often get snow, it’s a nostalgic way to make the most of the winter weather.

3. Sledding

Sledding is one of those classic winter activities that never loses its charm, no matter how old you get.

The thrill of speeding down a snowy hill with the cold wind in your face and a sense of freedom in your chest is something that stays with you.

Whether you’re using a traditional sled, a plastic toboggan, or even an old-fashioned wooden sled, there’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of the descent.

Vintage Sled, Vintage Blankets, Buffalo Plaid, Cabin

And it’s not just about the ride itself; sledding is also about the laughter, the occasional tumble, and the pure joy of being outdoors in the winter.

Find a hill with a nice, gentle slope for the kids or go for a more daring incline if you’re after a more adventurous experience.

It’s a simple activity that’s easy to do with family or friends, and the best part is that the fun never seems to end—you’ll be racing up the hill just to go down again and again!

4. Hot Cocoa Bar

After a day spent braving the cold, there’s nothing better than warming up with a cup of hot cocoa.

But why settle for a plain mug of cocoa when you can set up an entire hot chocolate bar at home?

Create your own winter wonderland of toppings and mix-ins, like whipped cream, colorful marshmallows, crushed peppermint, chocolate shavings, or even a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg.

Hot Chocolate Bar, Log Cabin, Cabin

For a more indulgent experience, add caramel sauce, toffee bits, or mini candy canes for extra flavor.

Set up the bar with various types of hot chocolate—think dark chocolate, white chocolate, or spiced cocoa—for everyone to customize their drink just the way they like it.

It’s the perfect way to spend a cozy evening indoors with loved ones, sipping on sweet treats while you watch a holiday movie, read a book, or just chat by the fire.

This activity is also great for entertaining guests, making it a festive and interactive way to warm up during the colder months.

5. Winter Hiking or Snowshoeing

Winter hiking or snowshoeing offers a peaceful and serene way to explore nature during the colder months.

While many people think of hiking as a spring or summer activity, winter transforms the outdoors into a breathtaking landscape of quiet beauty.

If you’ve never tried snowshoeing before, it’s an easy-to-learn activity that allows you to walk on snow-covered trails without sinking into the powder, making it ideal for areas with deep snow.

Snowshoes

For those who prefer a more traditional hike, many trails are still accessible in winter, providing a crisp, calm atmosphere and fewer crowds.

Winter hiking offers a chance to spot wildlife in its natural habitat, experience the quiet stillness of a snowy forest, and enjoy the beauty of frost-covered trees or frozen lakes.

Plus, the cold air can be invigorating, making you feel like you’re truly connected to the outdoors.

Layer up, grab your boots or snowshoes, and discover the winter wonderland that’s waiting just outside your door.

6. Take a Winter Photography Walk

Winter landscapes are stunning and can offer beautiful photo opportunities. Bundle up, take your camera or phone, explore your surroundings while documenting the beauty of the season.

Try making it a challenge with family or friends inviting them to join in and share their favorite winter moments.

Winter Photography

You can create daily or weekly prompts, such as “Best Snowy Landscape,” “Coziest Winter Setup,” or “Funniest Winter Moment.”

Have everyone share their pics online or in a group chat.

7. Bake Treats

Winter is the ultimate time to indulge in baking, whether you’re a seasoned pro in the kitchen or just getting started.

The chilly weather and cozy atmosphere of your kitchen make it the perfect setting for whipping up some sweet or savory treats.

Gingerbread cookies, spiced cakes, and hearty pies are staples, but you can also experiment with new recipes, like hot cocoa brownies or cinnamon rolls.

The aroma of freshly baked goods filling the house is enough to make anyone feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Pretzel Sea Salt Cookies

Baking is not only a comforting solo activity, but it’s also a wonderful way to spend time with family or friends.

Share your delicious creations with neighbors, or deliver a festive batch of cookies to loved ones as a thoughtful gift. Stop in White Arrows the Shop to find the perfect plate for gifting on from our Dish Bar.

If you prefer, you can keep your treats all to yourself to savor throughout the season—just be sure to have a cup of hot cocoa or coffee on hand to enjoy with them!

8. Go Skiing or Snowboarding

Downhill skiing is one of my favorite activities!

If you live near a ski resort—or if you’re planning a winter getaway—skiing or snowboarding is one of the most thrilling ways to experience the winter season.

Whether you’re a seasoned expert carving down the slopes or a beginner eager to learn, these high-energy sports offer an incredible way to make the most of the winter months.

Skiing and snowboarding aren’t just about the sport itself—they’re also about the scenery.

Picture yourself gliding down a snow-covered mountain with panoramic views of snowcapped peaks and pristine forests.

Skiing in Montana

The adrenaline rush from speeding down the slopes is unmatched, and for those looking to try something new, ski resorts often offer lessons, making it easy for first-timers to get the hang of it.

Whether you’re into powdery runs or thrilling terrain parks, skiing and snowboarding are perfect for creating lasting memories on the mountain.

9. Have a Winter Picnic

Who says picnics are only for the summer?

With a little preparation, a winter picnic can be an unforgettable experience.

Bundle up in cozy layers, pack a thermos of hot soup, and head to a scenic park or even a snowy field for a winter wonderland picnic.

The crisp, cold air makes the experience feel special, and there’s something magical about sitting outdoors with snow gently falling around you.

Picnic with Skotch Kooler

Pack hearty foods that will warm you from the inside out, like stews, sandwiches, or hot baked goods, and don’t forget your favorite hot drinks—whether it’s a thermos of cocoa or mulled cider.

For extra comfort, bring along blankets or insulated cushions to sit on, and be sure to bring a thermos or two for something warm to sip while you relax.

A winter picnic is a peaceful way to embrace the cold, connect with nature, and enjoy a delicious meal with friends or family.

10. Create a Winter Wonderland Indoors

Even if the weather outside is frightful, you can still create a magical atmosphere inside your home.

Turn your living room into a cozy winter wonderland with twinkling fairy lights, paper snowflakes, and winter greenery like pine boughs.

Add some soft throws and pillows to create a warm, inviting space, perfect for curling up with a cup of tea or a good book.

You can also get creative with seasonal decorations like homemade wreaths or candles in wintery scents.

Winter Decor- Hot Chocolate

The key is to embrace the season’s beauty indoors by incorporating textures, colors, and lighting that evoke the magic of winter.

Whether you host friends for a gathering or simply enjoying the ambiance with your family, a cozy winter home can make the colder months feel extra special.

11. Host a Winter Craft Party

A winter craft party is a wonderful way to bring friends and family together during the colder months.

Get creative with activities that fit the season, like making DIY holiday cards, decorating ornaments, or crafting homemade snow globes.

You can even try your hand at knitting scarves or making felt snowflakes.

Whether you’re crafting holiday decor, creating personalized gifts, or just having fun with seasonal projects, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones while being productive.

winter-decor-apres-ski-buffalo-plaid

Make sure to set up a cozy space with plenty of supplies, a warm drink station, and some festive music to get everyone into the spirit.

Not only will you leave with a sense of accomplishment, but you’ll also have unique handmade items that will add a personal touch to your home or make thoughtful gifts.

12. Make Homemade Candles with Winter Scents

There’s something so comforting about lighting a candle on a cold winter night, and making your own adds a personal touch to your home decor.

Winter scents like cinnamon, pine, and vanilla evoke cozy memories and can help you transform your space into a relaxing haven.

Creating homemade candles is surprisingly easy and can be a fun, creative project for a solo afternoon or a group activity.

Nautical Candleholder
Nautical Candle Holders

Choose your favorite scent or blend a few to create your own signature fragrance.

You can even add dried herbs, spices, or glitter to make your candles extra special.

If you’re looking for a meaningful holiday gift, homemade candles are an excellent idea—they’re thoughtful, personalized, and always appreciated.

Whether you keep them for yourself or share them with loved ones, DIY candles are a beautiful way to bring warmth to your home.

13. Start a Winter Journal

Winter is the perfect time to slow down, reflect, and capture the essence of the season in a journal. Whether you’re a writer, an artist, or simply someone who enjoys documenting life’s moments, starting a winter journal can be a deeply rewarding experience.

Use the pages to jot down your winter adventures—whether you’re hiking through snowy trails, baking seasonal treats, or enjoying a peaceful evening by the fire.

You can also sketch winter scenes, write down cozy recipes, or capture thoughts and reflections on the season.

Great Day to Start Journaling

A winter journal is a great way to embrace the stillness of the colder months, and it provides a wonderful way to look back on your memories in years to come.

Plus, it’s a perfect way to channel creativity and stay mindful during this quieter time of year.

14. Winter Stargazing

On clear winter nights, the sky is often at its most breathtaking. Bundle up in your warmest clothes and head outside for some winter stargazing.

The crisp, cold air makes the stars appear sharper and brighter, and with the lack of light pollution in some areas, you may be able to spot constellations more easily.

This is the perfect time to observe the wonders of the night sky—whether it’s a meteor shower, the Big Dipper, or the Orion constellation.

Stargazing also gives you a sense of connection to the vastness of the universe and can be a meditative experience.

Night Cabin

Find a quiet, open space with minimal light interference, and spend time marveling at the celestial beauty above.

Winter stargazing is a peaceful, awe-inspiring activity that brings a sense of calm and wonder, perfect for unwinding after a long day.

15. Host a Game Night

When the weather keeps you indoors, a game night can bring everyone together for some fun and laughter.

You can enjoy trivia, charades, or even play classic board games like Monopoly or Scrabble.

Here’s a post with some of our favorite family games.

For a winter twist, you can create your own themed trivia questions, or set up a movie or song guessing game.

Kristin Lenz

Game nights are a great way to connect with loved ones, and they also helps lift your spirits during the colder months.

Make it extra festive by offering winter snacks and cozy drinks, and encourage everyone to wear their comfiest sweaters or even winter pajamas!

16. DIY Hot Toddy or Cocktail Tasting

Winter is the perfect time to experiment with new drinks, especially those that warm you up from the inside out.

Hot toddies, mulled wine, and seasonal cocktails are perfect for cozying up with friends or unwinding after a busy day.

Organize a DIY cocktail or hot toddy tasting with a few different recipes, and get creative by adding various spices, fruits, or herbs to experiment with flavors.

Buffalo Plaid, Hudson Bay Blanket, Pendleton, Baileys, Roaring Fire, Fireplace, Cozy

For example, try a cinnamon-spiced hot toddy or a cranberry-orange sangria. Set up a tasting station with all your ingredients and enjoy sampling your creations.

This is a great way to add a fun twist to your winter evenings, and if you’re looking for a thoughtful holiday gift, you can bottle your custom cocktails for friends to enjoy.

17. Create a Winter-Themed Scavenger Hunt

Winter-themed scavenger hunts are a fantastic way to get outside, explore your neighborhood, and engage in a little friendly competition.

Whether you’re hunting for pinecones, snowflakes, holiday decorations, or even specific animals like winter birds, a scavenger hunt adds an element of adventure to any winter outing.

If you live in an area with snow, you could even hide little treasures or clues beneath the snow for extra fun.

lake cabin in the snow

Create clues that lead participants from one item to the next, or turn it into a race for who can find everything first.

For an indoor option, you could hide small winter-themed objects like snow globes or holiday ornaments around the house.

This activity is not only entertaining but encourages participants to embrace the winter season by exploring the beauty around them.

18. Make a DIY Snow Globe

Craft your own personalized snow globes using jars, mini figurines like pine trees and snowmen, glitter, and glycerin.

snow globe

This is a great activity for kids or a fun craft night with friends.

19. Create a Winter Soundtrack Playlist

What’s a winter day without the right soundtrack?

Curate a winter playlist that suits your mood, whether it’s peaceful and cozy, upbeat and festive, or nostalgic with classic winter tunes.

Share it with others or use it as your soundtrack while you relax at home or play it during your activities and on winter outings.

20. Build an Ice Lantern

Create your own winter lanterns by filling balloons with water, freeze them outdoors, and then pop the balloon to reveal a beautiful, translucent ice lantern. Then add a candle inside. The result is a glowing, icy lantern perfect for lighting up your front yard or decorating your home with wintery beauty.

21. Plan a “Staycation” Winter Retreat

If you’re not traveling this winter, make your home a winter retreat.

Turn your living space into a cozy retreat with activities like an indoor spa day or a movie marathon.

Stone Fireplace

Enjoy hot drinks, and even take virtual tours of snowy destinations.

A “staycation” is the perfect excuse to relax and enjoy the comforts of home.

22. Make Winter-Themed Terrariums

Bring a little nature indoors by crafting winter-themed terrariums.

Fill a glass container with faux snow, miniature winter figurines, and tiny pinecones or branches.

It’s a low-maintenance decoration that adds a touch of winter magic to your home—and can be a great gift idea for someone special to lift their winter blues.

23. Go on a “Winter Beach” Adventure

If you live near a coast, consider taking a walk along the beach in winter. The landscape will look entirely different in the cold, with dramatic waves, sea foam, and maybe even a beach fire!

24. Try Winter Cooking Classes (or DIY)

Try making hearty stews, warming curries, or classic comfort foods like pot pie or fondue.

Winter is the perfect time to experiment with hearty, comforting meals.

Try out winter-inspired cooking, like slow-cooked stews, curries, or classic comfort foods like pot pie and fondue.

Consider joining an online cooking class or simply experiment with winter dishes from different cultures.

Host a cozy, home-cooked meal with friends or family.

It’s the perfect time to start a Cookbook Club, like a book club, but where you read and cook through cookbooks, meeting once a month to discuss and share a favorite recipe.

These activities will surely inspire your creativity and bring even more magic to the winter months!

If you’re like me, life often feels like a balancing act—between family, work, church, personal goals, and everything in between.

As women, we juggle multiple roles, and it can often be in the midst of chaos and fatigue.

People comment often about the amount of things they see me do. The truth is, I don’t get everything done I intend to do. Every day doesn’t go the way I plan with a checklist completed.

But through it all, I’ve discovered that my faith is the foundation that keeps me going, enabling me to do all that I do, and more importantly, to do it with grace, purpose, and peace.

Don’t Be Intimidated

One of the biggest deterrents toward moving forward toward dreams is comparing ourselves to others. When we spend more time watching what others are doing and let that intimidate us, distract us or make us feel less than, we will not live in God’s purpose for us.

We have gifts, talents and dreams that God gave us to use and do His work with. In Galatians 6:4 we are encouraged with these words. “But let each one examine his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.”

So capturing those comparisons quickly is key. I also work on limiting the amount of time I spend on social media taking in other people’s content.

The Power of Faith in Every Area of Life

It’s easy to get caught up in the demands of everyday life and forget where our strength comes from. For me, faith in God is the fuel that propels me forward.

When I feel overwhelmed or unsure, I lean into my relationship with God. I turn to Scripture, prayer, and the quiet moments of reflection to recalibrate my heart and mind.

Tea Cup

In Philippians 4:13, we are reminded: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse has become my anchor. Whether it’s managing my schedule, taking care of my family, or stepping out of my comfort zone to pursue a new project, I know I’m never doing it alone. God is right beside me, guiding my steps.

Finding Purpose in the Daily Grind

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is that even the most mundane tasks can be infused with purpose when seen through the lens of faith.

As women, we often put others’ needs first—whether it’s caring for our children, supporting our husbands, or leading in our communities. Yet, sometimes we forget that these acts of service are not just “duties” but expressions of love and purpose.

When I approach each task with the understanding that I’m serving God through my service to others, it transforms everything.

Whether I’m making dinner, folding laundry, or answering emails, I strive to do it with joy, as an offering to God. I remember Colossians 3:23, which says: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” This perspective shifts my mindset from seeing tasks as burdens to viewing them as opportunities to honor God and bless those around me.

Busy

One of the things people tend to say is that I am busy. I do not feel busy, my pace adjusts to the seasons of my life and is modified based on my having time for quiet, for family, for friends and my work. It is not busyness, it is filling my time with purpose and joy.

One of my friends often says we are all different sized boats and our capacity varies. It can change in different stages of life.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens,” it says in Ecclesiastes 3:1.

Leaning into God’s Strength, Not My Own

I do have days when I feel like I’m running on empty. The demands are high, the expectations are great, and my energy feels like it’s gone. But that’s when I remind myself: I don’t have to do it all in my own strength.

I’ve learned that when I lean into God’s strength, I am equipped to handle anything that comes my way. Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.”

This promise reassures me that I don’t have to be superwoman, trying to do everything perfectly on my own. Instead, I can rely on God’s endless supply of strength, knowing He will give me what I need, when I need it.

And check out my post about how to not feel rushed.

Embracing Rest and Renewal

A vital part of doing all I do is remembering the importance of rest. As women, we often think we have to do it all and be everything to everyone. But the truth is, rest is not a luxury; it’s essential to our well-being and our ability to serve others. God Himself modeled rest, as we see in the creation story where He rested on the seventh day.

I have learned the importance of creating space for rest in my schedule. Whether it’s a quiet morning with my Bible and a cup of coffee, or a weekend getaway with loved ones, these moments of renewal are essential for maintaining balance.

Matthew 11:28 invites us: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” I hold onto this promise, allowing myself grace to recharge and come back to my tasks with renewed energy and perspective.

Finding Community and Support

We were never meant to do life alone. One of the greatest blessings I’ve experienced is the support of a strong community of women. I have amazing friends and coworkers who I love doing life with. Whether it’s my days working alongside the girls at White Arrows Home, fellow moms, through Bible study, or just having honest conversations with close friends, these connections provide encouragement, accountability, and wisdom.

Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” This verse reflects the power of community. We are meant to uplift one another, share our burdens, and celebrate our victories together.

Cabin Coffee Pot

I’ve learned that asking for help, leaning on others for prayer, and offering support in return are all ways we can strengthen each other in our walk of faith.

Trusting God’s Plan

Ultimately, how I do all I do comes down to trust. I trust that God has a plan for my life, a purpose for my days, and a reason for every season.

Sometimes, life doesn’t look how I imagined it would, but I have learned to trust that God is working all things together for my good. Romans 8:28 reassures us that, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Cabin Living Room

This trust allows me to release the pressure of perfection, knowing that my worth isn’t based on what I accomplish but on who I am in Christ.

With each step, I trust that God is leading me toward the next chapter of His perfect plan.

Empowered by Faith, Guided by Purpose

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, tired, or unsure of how to keep going, I encourage you to pause and reconnect with the source of your strength. Allow your faith to be the anchor in the storm, the light in the darkness, and the grace in your days.

You are not alone in this journey. God is with you every step of the way, equipping you to do all things with strength, love, and purpose.

Remember, you are a beloved daughter of the King, and He has equipped you to fulfill your calling—right where you are.

Adventure Awaits Flannel

Keep trusting, keep serving, and keep walking in faith. You can do all things through Christ, who strengthens you.

In today’s fast-paced world, small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on both your health and the environment. Whether you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint, eat more nutritious food, or simply make your home a healthier place to live, making a few simple swaps can help you achieve your goals.

Here are some easy changes to incorporate into your daily life that promote whole wellness.

Swap Refined Sugar for Local Honey or Maple Syrup

Refined sugars and artificial sweeteners are a common addition to many diets, but they’re not the healthiest option. Instead, consider using local honey or pure maple syrup as a natural sweetener. Local honey may even help with seasonal allergies and offers a dose of antioxidants. Maple syrup is full of minerals like manganese and zinc and is a wholesome, unprocessed alternative to sugar.

Say Goodbye to Plastic Bottles—Go Glass or Stainless Steel

Plastic bottles are not only bad for the environment but also potentially harmful to your health. Chemicals like BPA found in some plastics can leach into your water or food. To make a healthier choice, swap out single-use plastic bottles for glass or stainless steel alternatives. These materials are more sustainable, free from chemicals, and can be reused for years.

Choose Whole Foods Over Processed Snacks

Processed foods are often loaded with sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. For a healthier lifestyle, focus on eating whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and homemade snacks. You’ll not only feel better but also reduce your intake of preservatives and artificial ingredients found in many processed snacks.

Swap Vegetable Oils for Olive Oil

Many people cook with highly refined vegetable oils, which can contain unhealthy trans fats and be stripped of nutrients. For a healthier cooking fat, olive oil is a better choice. It’s rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, making it a versatile, nutritious option for cooking and dressings.

Switch to Glass or Metal Storage Containers

Plastic storage containers may seem convenient, but they can leach harmful chemicals into your food and contribute to plastic waste. Instead, opt for glass or metal containers for storing food. They’re safer for your health, keep food fresh, and are more sustainable over time.

Natural Cleaning Products Over Harsh Chemicals

The cleaning products we use in our homes can contain harsh chemicals that harm both your health and the environment. By switching to natural cleaning solutions—like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils—you can keep your home sparkling clean without exposure to toxic substances.

Cook More at Home, Eat Less Fast Food

Cooking at home offers a wide range of benefits: it’s healthier, more cost-effective, and helps you avoid preservatives and excess sugars and salts. Instead of grabbing fast food or takeout, try cooking meals from scratch with fresh ingredients. You’ll be in control of what goes into your food, and your body will thank you for it!

Go Plastic-Free with Utensils and Straws

One of the easiest ways to reduce plastic waste in your life is by swapping out plastic utensils and straws for more sustainable options like wooden, bamboo, or metal alternatives. These materials are durable, reusable, and free from chemicals that can leach into your food and drink.

Silverware

Opt for a Bamboo Toothbrush

Did you know that plastic toothbrushes can take hundreds of years to decompose? A simple swap to a bamboo toothbrush reduces your plastic waste and gives you a more sustainable way to maintain your oral hygiene. Bamboo is biodegradable and naturally antimicrobial, making it a healthy choice for both you and the planet.

Switch to Natural Deodorants

Conventional deodorants often contain synthetic chemicals and aluminum, which some studies suggest could be harmful to your health. By making the switch to natural deodorants made from ingredients like baking soda, arrowroot powder, and essential oils, you can avoid these chemicals while still staying fresh.

Grow Your Own Herbs and Vegetables

If you have a bit of space at home, consider starting a small garden. Growing your own herbs and vegetables not only ensures you have fresh, healthy produce on hand, but it also reduces your reliance on store-bought items that come wrapped in plastic. It’s a great way to promote sustainability and save money in the long run!

Garden Veggies

Choose Organic or Local Produce

Buying organic or locally grown produce supports sustainable farming practices and reduces your exposure to pesticides and chemicals. Plus, local produce is fresher, often tastes better, and helps reduce the carbon footprint associated with food transportation.

Blueberries and Beans

Drink More Water, Less Soda

We all know sugary drinks aren’t the best choice for our health. Instead of reaching for soda, opt for water or herbal teas to stay hydrated. Reducing your intake of sugary beverages can help prevent weight gain, improve skin health, and reduce your risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes.

Morning mineral water cocktail

Buy in Bulk to Reduce Packaging Waste

Buying in bulk is a great way to save money while reducing waste. Purchasing grains, legumes, nuts, and other staples in bulk reduces the need for single-use packaging. Simply bring your own reusable bags or containers to stores that allow bulk buying.

Switch to Compostable Trash Bags

Most trash bags are made from plastic, which can take centuries to break down. Consider using compostable bags made from plant-based materials instead. They break down much faster and are a more environmentally-friendly option.

Use a Water Filter

Instead of relying on bottled water, invest in a good-quality water filter for your home. Not only will you reduce plastic waste, but filtered water is often cleaner and healthier than tap water. It’s an easy and cost-effective way to ensure you’re drinking clean water.

Choose Eco-Friendly Personal Care Products

Traditional personal care products like shampoos, soaps, and lotions can contain harmful chemicals. Switch to natural, biodegradable personal care products that are gentle on both your body and the environment. Look for items with minimal packaging and ingredients you can pronounce!

Making simple swaps in your daily life can have a profound effect on your health, your wallet, and the planet. Start with a few changes and gradually incorporate more as you go. Whether it’s switching to natural cleaning products or opting for reusable alternatives, every small step counts toward living a more sustainable and healthier life.

Ready to make a change? Start with one or two swaps today and see how easy it can be to embrace a healthier, eco-friendly lifestyle!
