When looking for a wonderful getaway, plan a stay at The Charmant Hotel in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
As part of my Boutique Hotel Stays series I’m sharing a stay at The Charmant Hotel in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Sometimes I only think of big cities as having amazing hotels, but it’s worth researching in smaller towns too to see if there are any special places to stay, there may be a gem like The Charming.
Two years ago our family started looking for a getaway property in Southern Wisconsin. We found land we were interested just south of LaCrosse. While we were looking my husband and I stayed at The Charmant, a 67-room luxury boutique hotel in downtown La Crosse.
This boutique hotel may be my favorite of all I’ve stayed in so far.
The Charmant is located in a renovated candy factory from 1898. They kept many of the original architectural details like the maple wood flooring, the wood beams, and the exposed brick. The name comes from Charmant, a premium line of chocolates produced by the candy company. Charmant also the French word for charming.

LaCrosse
When I was in college in Iowa we would go up to LaCrosse to go snow skiing at Mt. LaCrosse.
Twenty years later I came back to LaCrosse. If my college aged self could have seen into the future! I’m now married and the mom of five!
LaCrosse is a neat town that I want to spend more time exploring. It sits on the Mississippi River with Minnesota on the other side. My favorite thing about LaCrosse so far is exploring the antique shops downtown.
The Rooms
Staying in boutique hotels is so wonderful because they typically have amazing lobbies to hang out in, wonderful bars and restaurants and luxurious rooms to relax in.
When you check into the hotel they give you a little tray of chocolates and chocolate memorabilia is displayed throughout the lobby and in the hotel rooms.
The exposed hardness of the original brick is softened by the draperies, bedding and other soft fabrics.
On our first trip to the Charmant, I tried Fieldnotes Gin from LaCrosse Distilling Company in a Gin and Tonic and it was the best one I have ever had. The hotel had some bottles in the room and also served it at the bar. I love the labeling of the bottles as much as the taste.
The owners of LaCrosse Distilling Company also owns The Charmant.
I love including anything local to a home so after this we stocked our getaway home with Fieldnotes.
Downstairs, just outside the lobby is The Parlour coffee shop. In the room were wooden tokens to get a free cup of coffee.
The bathrooms are beautiful and spa like.

I love the modern amenities they have while still keeping classic touches.
I was also excited to see that they carry my favorite brand of soaps and lotions, C.O. Bigelow. The fragrance of the lavender peppermint is one of the most relaxing smells. I even keep a little bottle of lotion in my purse. If I feel any slight anxiety or a small headache the smell takes it away.
The old photographs and candy company advertising are all hung in a gallery wall in a variety of frames off center of the bed. I have never seen this done before and it was beautiful.
The website claims that guests can still smell the sweet candy aroma from the original factory.
The Details
Beautiful touches like muted carpets, thoughtfully curated furniture and retro-style lighting fixtures fill the rooms which are each different.
The original wood floors show decades of ware.
They built a wardrobe front onto the closet.
Custom touches like branded coasters show their attention to detail.
Restaurant, Bar & Coffee Shop
The Restaurant was delicious. We’ve eaten several times there now for dinner and breakfast. They serve French inspired dishes
In the lobby is a beautiful bar & lounge serving craft beer, wine, and cocktails. You can also get some of the things off the restaurant’s menu.
There’s a Rooftop Terrace that serves handcrafted cocktails seasonally. I haven’t been there yet when its been open, but I can’t wait to try.
By the check in desk, there’s a treats counter where you can get handmade chocolates any time of day.
I loved the blue and white dishes they use in the restaurant.
The Parlour has great coffee and lots of seating options serving until two in the afternoon each day.
A few other perks of The Charmant:
- House Car Service
- Fitness Center
- Dog Friendly
Be sure to add The Charmant and a trip to LaCrosse to your bucket list!
