Thanks so much to Cindy of County Road 407 for organizing this hop.

It’s been a while since I’ve participated with this fun group and I’m so glad to be back again.

Today our theme is Super Bowl Recipes and I’m making a delicious Whiskey & Bitterns nut mix.

If you are coming over from French Ethereal didn’t her soup sound wonderful!

Welcome to my log cabin home in the Wisconsin Northwoods.

Football is a big deal in our house.

We love watching games together around our basement TV, its tradition and such a fun way to spend time together.

During commercial breaks or half time the kids will run outside (or even right in the middle of the room) throw the football around and there is so much laughter and fun.

We not only love to watch on TV, but my husband and all three of my sons play/played ball.

One of my older boys plays in college where my husband played and I was a cheerleader (he even wears the same number as his dad.)

Along with watching football games, we also love the gathering around it: the tailgating, the food and the fun with family and friends.

Football Tailgate

Some of our favorite meals are the smorgasbord of snacks and bites that we put out during games.

And when the Super Bowl is on, it goes next level.

This year I wanted to add something salty and crunchy that was an easy grab and munch snack.

We’ve always got plenty of dips and wings so a flavored nut mix will be a great addition.

White Arrows Home the Shop

At my brick and mortar shop in Wisconsin we have a back building named The Paddle Club where we hold weekly gatherings we call clubs.

White Arrows Home Paddle Club

The first Thursday of the month is a Game Club, often Bingo for fun prizes.

The second Thursday is Cookbook Club; the third, a Book Club; and the fourth Craft Club where everyone brings a project they are working on like knitting, scrapbooking, journaling etc.

Want to learn more or join in? Visit HERE.

This month our Cookbook Club book was The Snowy Cabin Cookbook by Marnie Hanel and Jen Stevenson.

The Snowy Cabin Cookbook

It not only has wonderful recipes in it, but is such a fun read!

When I wanted to find a great Super Bowl snack, I knew this cookbook would have just what I was looking for, and it did!

The Whiskey and Bitters Bar Mix will be great for game night, but also for year round enjoyment here where I live in The Northwoods of Wisconsin.

The Northwoods is a special place full of supper clubs, fish frys on Friday and Old Fashioned cocktails.

Minocqua, Old Fashioned, Wisconsin Supper Club

These nuts are flavored with some of the ingredients of an Old Fashioned so will be wonderful to share and have out in a dish on the bar or coffee table when friends come over.

While they were sitting on the stove top cooling after coming out of oven I was down watching NFL playoff games and my husband came downstairs with a bowl full of the nuts proclaiming how amazing they were.

It is definitely a recipe I’ll make again, i can see it becoming a signature snack for me to serve.

It’s such an easy recipe!

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 lb. unsalted raw nuts (mix of any kind you like)
  • 1/2 cup bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 TBSP coconut oil
  • 1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Angostura bitters
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

I used one of our favorite local bourbons.

Heat oven to 325 degrees after moving the rack to the middle of the oven.

Spread parchment paper over a sheet pan.

Mix the nuts in a bowl.

In a medium saucepan whisk together the bourbon or whiskey, coconut oil, Worcestershire sauce, bitters, salt and brown sugar bringing it to a boil over medium heat.

Reduce the heat, keeping a simmer for two minutes.

Pour the mixture over the bowl of nuts and stir until mixed well.

Spread the nuts on the sheet pan and bake for 15-20 minutes stirring halfway through.

Let cool for ten minutes after taking them out of the oven.

If any happen to be left they can store in an air tight container for two weeks.

Whiskey and Bitters nuts will also make a great gift!

If you’ve started the tour her with me then circle back to the beginning at County Road 407 and her delicious three ingredient Super Bowl snack.

Thanks for visiting! Enjoy the Super Bowl!

For this last week of our season we had a brunch. Each lady was asked to bring a dish to pass. (FYI, I’ve yet to see the dishes passed. They are just laid out on the table like a buffet.)

What do you call the food items you bring to a party where you live?

My schedule this week didn’t allow for any extra kitchen time so I got a fun idea.

I think the presentation of your dish can be just as important as what you are serving. Using a special platter, plate, cake stand or dish takes it up a notch and is an easy way to make it memorable. Even if you buy something from the store, just add it to your own pretty serving piece. We sell lots of options at My Shop.

Vintage Cake Carrier

We have a special room we call The Dish Bar where you can shop vintage dishes, platters and tea cups. There’s a table in the middle to play around on and build your own beautiful mix matched sets. Here’s a post to enjoy.

Vintage Dishes to Mix and Match

I decided to use one of my favorite grazing boards and pick up a box of donuts. What would make it special was tucking flowers in around the donuts.

A bouquet of little pink sweetheart roses that were simple and sweet was the perfect addition.

In the floral aisle, I took a few minutes to look up food friendly flowers on my phone. Here’s a link to the advice I found.

Setting up the board took minutes and the feedback when I set it out on the table was amazing. Everyone was oohing and ahhing.

I hope this simple, fun idea helps you share a special brunch idea with someone special on any occasion to keep your stress low and your joy high.

Late Summer is the perfect time to make a blackberry recipe bursting with flavor.

I’m excited to share with you one of my favorite things about late Summer today. Cooking with what is in season and right outside my door- fresh blackberries. Enjoy this blackberry recipe busting with flavor as you enjoy Blackberry Puff Pies.

My friend Pasha of Pasha is Home has hosted some wonderful blog hops this Summer and I’m so honored to be part of them. Today 10 of us are sharing End of Summer Recipes.

Summer Porch Decor

If you are coming over from my friend Jen’s at Midwest Life and Style I bet you are as eager as I am to try her Chocolate Chip Zucchini Muffins with Streusel. She always shares the best recipes.

I’m excited to now welcome you to my Wisconsin home. We live way Up North in an area known as The Northwoods about three hours north of Madison. It’s a vacationland paradise all year round as visitors come to enjoy our lakes and forests.

Summer decor at the lake cabin

Living in a forest means we get to forage for one of my favorite treats as we head into late Summer- blackberries. Blackberries grow down the edges of our driveway and down along our road and into the woods in abundance. As we get to the end of August and Labor Day weekend they are ripe and ready to pick and enjoy.

There is something extra special about either growing food from our own garden or picking it ourselves as it grows wild in the woods.

One of our favorite blackberry memories is picking them with my grandmother, my kids great grandmother. They called her GeeGee. She came up to visit one Labor Day and joined in on all the fun picking berries and then baking them into a cobbler with the kids.

She passed away over a year ago so having these moments to remember as so special.

There are so many recipes I love to make with blackberries. This is one of my favorites that really let’s you enjoy the full bursting flavor of the berries in a sweet package. They are great to serve for breakfast warm from the oven or as a dessert with ice cream.

You can also make this recipe with other fruits substituted for the blackberries like blueberries, cherries or strawberries.

You can add in some toasted almond slivers or white chocolate chips to change it up too. Pour over whipped cream or a bit of maple syrup to make them even sweeter.

Blackberry Puff Pies

To make one serving use:

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 2 Tbsp. of sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. of cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 pkg. frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1 egg- lightly beaten
  • sugar to sprinkle

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Add blackberries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon and cinnamon to a bowl and stir gently.

Unfold puff pastry on a parchment paper covered baking sheet. Make sure it is thawed, but still cold. Pour blackberry mixture to the middle of the pastry. Add a bit of butter on top of the berries and fold up the edges.

Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle a little sugar.

Bake for twenty minutes removing when it is bubbly and golden.

Can You Use Blackberries in a Cocktail?

One of the things I love to do is have a self serve bar set up when we are entertaining often with a signature cocktail themed for the evening or season.

A delicious one for late Summer when the blackberries are ripe is a Blackberry Mule.

  • Vodka
  • Blue Curacao
  • Ginger Beer
  • Fresh Blackberries
  • Mint
  • Lime
Moscow Mue with blackberries

Want to get daily encouragement? SUBSCRIBE HERE so you don’t miss any posts!

You can also use blackberries to make an amazing mojito, gin and tonic or margarita.

What Enhances the Flavors of Blackberries?

Some people find blackberries to be bitter. Adding a little sugar, cinnamon, lemon. Choose recipes that take the bitterness away like pairing them with a savory meat dish like a pork tenderloin, baking them into a cobbler or serve them with cheese on a charcuterie board.

What Tastes Good With Blackberries?

There are so many ways to enjoy blackberries.

  • Add them to pancakes
  • Top your yogurt parfait or morning granola
  • Mix them in with a spinach salad along with walnuts
  • Layer them in a panini sandwich of turkey and gouda on fresh sourdough

Find more amazing recipe ideas on my Blackberry Pinterest Board.

Can I freeze blackberries?

It’s a great idea to freeze your blackberries so you can use them in recipes for longer. They have a short growing period and freezing them extends the enjoyment.

When we first noticed our blackberries growing down the driveway we would pick them and eat them as we went. Then we decided that made the fun too short so we intentionally only ate a few and then saved the rest so we would have enough to cook with and freeze for later.

Why Do You Soak Blackberries?

Blackberries are delicate so be careful as you handle them. Gently rinse them and give them a soak in salt water mix of one cup of warm water and one teaspoon of salt to make sure any bugs are out of them.

Thank you so much for visiting! Next up you are headed over to my friend Kylie’s blog, Truemans Treasures. She has wonderful Inspiration for Summer Dinners.

A Peach Bourbon Arnold Palmer is a refreshing and amazing Summer cocktail to enjoy throughout the season.

Thanks so much to Cindy of County Road 407 for hosting another wonderful Pinterest Challenge blog hop!

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

Each month Cindy selects a photo from Pinterest and all of the participating bloggers style a space, make a recipe or show how they are inspired by the photo. It’s so fun to see how different everyone’s interpretation is.

SEE PAST PINTEREST CHALLENGES

Our Pinterest inspiration photo this month is from OrganicFacts.net. So peach recipes is the theme. I was in awe when I started looking at all the amazing, delicious things to make with peaches! You’ll find the links to all the blogs and recipes at the bottom of this post.

If you are coming over from my friend Michelle’s at Thistle Key Lane welcome to my blog White Arrows Home and my Wisconsin lakeside log cabin home, Camp Paradise. Doesn’t Michelle’s grilled peach crostini look amazing!

We spend a lot of time in the Summer sitting outside and down on the dock. It’s fun to come up with refreshing new ideas for Summer cocktails and mocktails.

I wanted to choose something that can be delicious for everyone. We usually have adults and kids around so the idea of a yummy, fruit inspired Arnold Palmer sounded like a crowd favorite.

My kids love this iced tea/lemonade mix drink and adding the touches of peach infusions makes it all the sweeter.

Using an iced tea that is already peach flavored saves a lot of time.

One of the great things about this drink is that you can add in the alcohol or leave it out. It’s delicious both ways.

As much as possible I try to use fresh ingredients and buy organic.

I also love to buy local and use spirits from our local distillery, but when I went to make this cocktail and write my post, my Northern Waters Distillery bourbon was all gone. You can use a local or a favorite bourbon brand for yours. Not sure what’s your favorite? Do a bourbon tasting one night.

You can also substitute the bourbon for rum or vodka.

I cute up fresh peaches from our local organic grocery store. Many of my friends buy peaches from the trucks that come up from the south, but we don’t go through enough quickly enough to buy them in big quantities.

Get creative when you garnish your drinks. For this one I added a slice of fresh peach. You could also add a lemon.

Steps to Making a Bourbon Peach Arnold Palmer

  • Fill a tall glass with ice.
  • Add in 3 oz. of bourbon
  • Fill half of glass with lemonade
  • Fill remainder of glass with iced tea
  • Add a fun swizzle stick and give it a stir
  • Slice a fresh peach and add a bit as garnish

You can also puree fresh peaches to add in, muddle a chunk of peach in the bottom of the glass or use a splash of Peach Schnapps.

Next up you are heading over to my friend Amber’s beautiful blog Follow the Yellow Brick Home. I can’t wait to try her recipe for gluten free crockpot peaches!

I’m so excited to be joining this fun Easter Brunch Menu Hop hosted by my friend Pasha is Home. There are six of us that have come together to share ideas for your Holiday celebration. You can find links to all the posts below.

There are recipes for deserts, main dishes and appetizers. I’m sharing a special Easter cocktail.

If you are coming over from Open Doors Open Hearts didn’t you love Aliya’s recipe for The Best Lemon Ricotta Cookie with Sourdough Discard.

Welcome to our home in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Depending on when Easter falls each year, we could still have lots of snow on the ground. Or even if our snow is gone, we could get cold temps and flurries. Easter dresses and egg hunts usually require coats and hats.

Here’s a photo of our cabin during our short Spring season a bit after Easter time.

Easter Brunch Drink

There are several drinks that pair perfectly with Easter Brunch. Drinks that are traditionally drunk in the morning and are crowd pleasers.

  • The Screwdriver
  • Mimosa
  • The Bloody Mary

There are also some fun and creative drinks that could be fun to add to a Spring Celebration. Click to see more details.

I thought it would be fun to take a twist on The Bloody Mary that would be the perfect addition to the menu.

The Bunny Mary

A few things intrigued me about this drink when I first heard/saw the idea on Pinterest. Number One- It looks so beautiful with a springy, gardeny vibe adorned with all the veggies.

Number Two- The carrot juice makes it sweeter than the tomato juice of the Bloody Mary. But the addition of all the veggies makes it feel healthier than a regular cocktail.

Number Three- The idea and name is just plain cute!

If you would like you can add vodka to the drinks or you can leave them non alcoholic. I like to always use local ingredients when I can and that includes liquor from our distillery here in town.

My vintage relish tray gets filled up with lots of fresh veggies. Everyone can snack on them as they make their drink or build their own garnish skewer.

I love this relish tray because the glass tray comes out of the silver holder to make washing easy.

A fun option to dress up the drinks even more is to add a “salted” rim. I used one of the ingredients, Old Bay Seasoning as the rim salter.

I used two low bowls, one with the Old Bay Seasoning and one with some of the carrot juice to easily top the glasses. First, I dipped the rim into the juice, then into the seasoning, just like you would do a margarita.

Then I filled the glasses with ice and poured in the Bunny Marys and garnished with a celery stalk.

It’s a refreshing addition to breakfast or anytime of the day, perfect for Spring.

I like to set up a self serve station so while I finish getting the Easter meal prepared everyone can make or pour their own drinks and enjoy snacks. I can’t wait to try some of the other sides and appetizers linked below.

The Recipe

The following ingredients can be combined in a pitcher to make a large batch.

  • 32 oz. carrot juice
  • 8 oz. vodka
  • 3 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 tsp dill
  • 3 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp horseradish
  • 3 tsp hot sauce
  • 4 dashes of Worcestershire
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 2 tsp black pepper

Warm Up and Get Cozy

Cozy home decor, drinks and activities help us embrace all Winter has to offer no matter how long the season.

When you live where temperatures stay near or below freezing for five or more months of the year, hot drinks are essential.

(Affiliate links are used for your convenience. Read my full disclosure here.)

Cozy Home

Whether we are Apres Ski (downhill or cross country), coming in from ice skating or snowshoeing, snowmobiling or walking our dog Honey, fixing a warm drink is such a cozy way to end a wonderful time outdoors.

Lately I’m enjoy this Campfire Mocha drink from page 54 of the Winter Drinks book we sell in my shop. You can also find it HERE.

Cold brew coffee + maple syrup + cocoa powder + a giant marshmallow… you’ve got the perfect drink to warm up. You can also add in whiskey or leave it out.

Antique and Vintage Finds

They are not only a special treat, but warm you up inside and out when you curl up under a favorite blanket by the fire and surround your self with a good book, family or friends.

Our cabin home in The Northwoods of Wisconsin is a mix of vintage and new pieces collected over time.

One of my hobbies is hunting for antique pieces to add to my collections and our home. Old pieces of sports equipment are one of my favorite things to come across.

I think many of my pieces, like my snowshoe collection are works of art.

This single snow shoe was a onsie I found and decided to grab even though there wasn’t a pair. It has come into great use during the Winter as a serving tray.

I shared this round up post with several more creative ways to decorate and use snowshoes in your home. READ MORE HERE.

My friend Ann of Dabbling and Decorating and fellow host of Thrifting With The Gals shared how she used the snowshoes she found in one of her adventures in THIS POST.

Each week in Instagram Stories, some friends and I share our adventures as we explore antique shops, hit the thrift shops, shop vintage markets and visit new communities around the country. We also share a monthly blog hop showcasing our finds in our homes.

Favorite Products

Did you know I have a store where you can shop in person or online? We sell antique, vintage and new home decor, accessories, gifts and apparel. The things we carry are things that we personally love ourselves like Tapped Maple Syrup, Wandering Bear Organic Coffee and Northmallow Marshmallows.

I’m a coffee girl and love maple syrup so this recipe is a perfect combination for me!

My shop is also full of fun books and cookbooks. We have several fun drink books like the Winter Drinks book where I found the inspiration for this delicious hot chocolate.

Appreciate Where You Live

I believe in doing something every day to appreciate where you live and there’s lots to do around our neck of the woods. We have so much to take advantage of and it’s important to not get lost in the to do lists of daily life without adding in some enjoyments big or small.

Sometimes it might be as small as taking a few minutes to actually sit down and enjoy the view out of my windows, or maybe to put my phone down and watch my surroundings more than my screens. It could be walking down our lane to get the mail and breath in the fresh air instead of just grabbing it as I drive in from work.

It could be enjoying a stop at a local coffee shop or spot unique to my town or meeting friends to walk a local trail. What are some of the ways you take time to appreciate and enjoy where you live?

Here’s some more fun ways we enjoy where we live in THIS POST.

Cooking, Baking, Hot Drink Making

Cooking, baking and hot drink making are another way to enjoy where you live, to enjoy your home. Do you have a favorite hot chocolate recipe? One your family enjoys or one your mom made when you were growing up?

Another fun find were my ski swizzle sticks. I have them in several colors.

Then you can use them to help add to the theme of a gathering or to mark drinks so everyone knows whose is whose.

vintage swizzle sticks shaped like skis

Flower Arranging

Along with cooking, baking and drink making… I love to do a little flower arranging.

Another fun vintage find was this little Snowdrift tin. When I saw it I thought it would be fun to use as part of my Winter Decor.

See more flower arranging inspiration in these posts:

Earlier this week I participated in a Tailgating Blog Hop with the bloggers of the Virtual Supper Club. It was so fun to see all the decor ideas. Today we are all sharing again with a recipe to go along with the theme. Thanks so much to Simply 2 Moms for organizing the tour!

If you are coming over from North Carolina and Rachel’s blog at On the Ponds Farmhouse, welcome to our home in Wisconsin. I can’t wait to try Rachel’s recipe!

Hammock, Log Home, Cabin, Backyard

My family loves the tradition of watching Sunday football and grazing. Putting out finger foods, snacks and favorite recipes to grab as we take in the games adds more memory making to the season.

One of the often included items is buffalo chicken.

There are so many fun ways to serve buffalo chicken flavored foods. I often enjoy buffalo chicken wraps when we go out to eat.

I thought it would be fun to try something new this season and did a Buffalo Chicken Pasta Salad. When I made it for the first time, the kids asked for it two more times over the next few weeks.

It’s such a quick and easy recipe with many things I already keep on hand.

The first thing I do is heat two packages of precooked Buffalo Style Chicken.

You can use any shape pasta you’d like. Use what you have on hand or choose a shape that’s your favorite.

While the chicken and pasta cooks I chop some celery.

I gather the other ingredients:

  • Ranch Dressing
  • Buffalo Sauce
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • The Chopped Celery
  • Blue Cheese Crumbles

This salad is such an easy one to adapt because you can add or leave out any of the pieces you want. You can even serve it as a make your own salad and let people add in the celery, tomatoes and blue cheese how they like.

When the chicken is done I cut it into bite sized pieces.

Then I mix everything together.

One of the things I love about this salad is that it tastes amazing hot or cold so you can serve it either way.

I use about 3/4 of the ranch and 3/4 of the buffalo sauce.

I serve my Buffalo Chicken Pasta in my wooden serving bowl and leave out my little wooden salad bowls to eat from.

I decorate around the salad with festive football decor like this vintage kid’s football helmet I found with #thriftingwiththegals on Instagram. We share each Wednesday what we find while out at local antique shops around the country.

The pasta salad makes the perfect addition to the tailgate I shared earlier this week.

I’m so excited for this month’s Pinterest Challenge hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. Each month Cindy chooses a photo from Pinterest and all the bloggers participating style a space or vignette in their own way inspired by the photo. It’s so fun to see how everyone’s posts come out.

This month, Cindy tried something new and challenged us to make a recipe inspired by this inspiration photo. She sent us a beautiful colander full of strawberries.

If you are coming over from my friend Paula’s Sweet Pea home, welcome over to our cabin in Wisconsin. Didn’t Paula’s recipe look delicious?

I decided to share one of my family’s favorite desserts. It’s an especially delicious choice especially during Summer when we can use fresh picked berries.

Strawberry Pretzel Bars

To start, I sliced the strawberries into similar sized pieces. Then, I placed them in a bowl with sugar to start bringing the juices out.

Dissolve jello in two cups boiling water. Then pour over strawberries.

Then place the strawberries in the fridge for an hour and a half.

Next I mixed the Dot’s pretzel crumbs with melted butter and sugar in a separate bowl. I poured it into a 9″ x 13 ” pan and pushed it down and into the corners. It felt like it wouldn’t be enough when I started spreading it, but it worked out just right.

Then I baked it in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. After pulling it out I set it aside to cool.

While the crust cooled I used my Kitchen Aid mixer to combine the middle layer of cream cheese, whipped cream and sugar.

I spooned the mixture onto the crust when it was cool to my touch.

When the stawberry jello was soft set I pulled it out of the fridge and spooned it on top of the cream cheese layer.

Then the whole dessert went into the fridge for 6-8 hours.

Strawberry Pretzel Bars

This dessert is often called Strawberry Pretzel Salad, but I consider them more a bar. When they come out of the fridge to serve it is easy to slice it into pieces to scoop out.
